Go vote for Utah to win the Pac-12 South...even if you don't think they will
ESPN has a poll up (bottom left) asking who will win the Pac-12 South (minus SC) and Utah currently leads with 34% of the vote. Even though sports pundits are conflicted in their views on the Utes entering this season, a plurality of fans aren't - as they have faith Utah will win the division in their inaugural season by a solid, though far from majority, number.

still holding strong at 34%.
interesting that we are winning. Athlon actually has us fourth. I think fourth in division is our absolute floor. We should beat UCLA and Colorado with very little trouble.

I just don't see fourth...
That would be a pretty disastrous season and most likely lead to 7-8 losses.
true.
i think we will beat AZ, Cal, WSU, and UW at a minimum as well. Six conference wins would be nice!

I wouldn't call Cal automatic
They play crazy better at home last few years. Biggest Jekyll/Hyde team with home/road difference.
I wouldn't call any game this year automatic.
Except for maybe Montana State
I keep accidentally eating my pets. Maybe I should get something less appetizing, like a cat instead of a Twinkie.

wins and losses in 2011
Here’s how I see it… (1=low confidence 5=high confidence)
Montana State – Win (5)
@USC – Win (3)
@BYU – Win (4)
Washington – Win (4)
Arizona State – Win (4)
@Pittsburgh – Loss (3)
@California – Loss (2)
Oregon State – Win (3)
@Arizona – Loss (5)
UCLA – Win (4)
@Washington State – Win (5)
Colorado – Win (5)
I see 3 losses for Utah in 2011… one certainly @ Arizona and two more to either Pitt, Cal or Oregon State. Utah’s toughest stretch comes at mid-season, with consecutive games vs. Pitt, Cal, OSU and Arizona. That’s the point when Utah’s BCS mettle will really be tested.
A definite loss comes @ Arizona because they will be beaten up from the previous three contests… and taking that into Arizona’s house won’t be easy. I predict the other two losses at Cal and at Pitt… but even if those don’t hold true, I still think the other two losses happen during that three-game stretch.
With a final record of 9-3, I believe that will be good enough to win Utah the South Division. This means Arizona State MUST finish 10-2 to win the south (since Utah would hold the tiebreaker)… and I don’t think ASU will finish 10-2.
The question at that point becomes, will Utah have to travel for the Pac 12 championship or will they get to host?
interesting....
I thought Pitt was kind of in shambles this year? Didn’t most of their good players just declare for the draft and leave? True that it is at their place and they will wnat to give us some payback, but Im fairly confident we will win that game.

I don't get the Arizona Hype.
Everyone seems to think Arizona State and Arizona are the biggest roadblocks for Utah. Arizona State I can understand slightly, but Arizona I don’t get at all.
This is a team that finished the season by losing 5 straight games. It’s a team that feasted on mid caliber teams last year before getting eaten up by stronger Teams.
I know they return Nick Foles who is a good QB, but they also have to replace their entire starting offensive line. Defensively they end up replacing 5 starters as well. As a whole they replace as many starters (13) as Utah.
Oh one other thing. They are coached by Mike Stoops, who has seemed to prove over the years, that when expectations are there, he falters (Kind of like the other more famous Stoops coach, must be the name).
though i think there are a lot of games that we have a very high probability of winning
I think your statement here is why this season will be so fun! Every week, there is something to talk about!

Way ahead of you..
I already voted last week when the poll was brand new. ASU was ahead then, but looks like the Utes are pulling away. Looking at the map, we are winning the Electoral by a landslide.
Its a Crap Shoot, so I'm voting UTES!
I am conflicted as well. Will we get stomped, will we stomp? It could go either way. And when I am conflicted, I think ‘Kyle will likely get us performing better than we really are!’, so it has to be the Utes!
Make sure to look at the map after you vote
Across the US and world we have a landslide win for majority. If this were a presidential race where winner gets all electoral votes it would be a huge win.
On the flip side, across the P12 states ASU is the clear winner.
So what does it mean that we that we win the nation and lose the states in the P12?

we have moved up all the way to....
35%
I love 25 people have voted in South Dakota.

Why would you vote for Utah even if you don't think they will?
Wouldn’t doing that just make you look like homers if the Utes don’t win? Now if you truly do think they will win then by all means go ahead and vote.

I don't think anyone here cares much about looking "like homers," win or lose.
We are homers.
It’s a meaningless vote that tracks how each state votes. Considering that jealous zoobs in Utah have been casting their vote for ASU, we had to vote, in force, exclusively for the U in order to help give some balance to the numbers. It would’ve been the shits if the U didn’t even receive a majority vote in Utah.

You really think "jealous zoobs" are voting for ASU?
I didn’t vote and I’m not a zoob anyways so I wouldn’t know but that sounds ridiculous.

Past history tells us volumes.
All I know is that, according to the voting results for the state of Utah, there were a disproportionate amount of votes for ASU, considering the population. Between Utah and BYU fans, there’s hardly enough people left over to be Utah State or Weber fans, let alone ASU, UA, etc fans. Considering that zoobs have risen en masse in the past to vote against Utah in similar polls, many of us drew the natural conclusion.

Anybody have a link to the results? I can't seem to find it on the espn website...
… plus for some reason espn.com is ludicrously slow on my computer at work.
Everyone hates a pink-shirt-wearing communist.
It's slow on my home computer...
Sucks. I can’t find it. Maybe if I go revisit my archives I’ll be able to find the poll URL there. I’ll check and get back to you…
