Utes land Justin Thomas, 19th best CB in the nation

Lya Wodraska is reporting, and other sources have confirmed, that Justin Thomas, a four-star cornerback out of Texas, has committed to the Utah football program.
Thomas held offers from a bevy of Big 12 schools and was rated by Rivals as the 29th best player in the state.
This is obviously a huge get for the coaching staff as the program continues to reap the benefits of their newly minted Pac-12 status.

COOL
Is this the first commit from Texas this year? Hopefully Scalley and BJ will get a couple more. Gotta love those Texans

hope not
Well, the difference is this time the kid already had offers to choose from and he picked us. a couple months ago texas fans really wanted the longhorns to offer him and thought they reminded him of their former DB who is in the NFL Earl Thomas

Or will it be Terrell Reese or Kenneth Scott all over again.
Kids changing their mind happens, but we have more kids who commit and stay committed. Welcome aboard Justin.

Am i not thinking
I thought Scott was solid as a rock the whole way? Reese looked as he might go to A&M but I don’t remember Scott even thinking about going elsewhere

Great News...
secondary can use all the help it can get and this kid sounds like a great pick up..
Justin is a great ball player. He is also cousin of former Longhorn Earl Thomas, and of course that bloodline set well with us Longhorns. A lot of Texas fan’s are still hoping that we (Texas) offer him. There are some rumors that his grades might be an issue for us. I obviously don’t know if there is any truth to that part or not. Unless Texas changes their mind and tries to persuade him that we really want him, (and I personally do not think we will) I believe you will see his signature on a Utah LOI.
Ya’ll should be very happy with him! Wish him the best with your university! Good luck this year, and enjoy the soon approaching football season!

Longhorn connection
Yes, I read that former Texas Longhorn and current Seahawk Earl Thomas is his cousin. Great get!

lol
only the first highlight video you provided is of the Justin Thomas that we have. The other two (the “QB/Athlete” highlights) are actually of another Justin Thomas who is on his way to alabama. I made the same mistake earlier as well.

True enough. My bad.
Same name, same number. I was wondering what was wrong with the guy as a QB, because he seemed pretty good to me.

Hot
Now don’t forget where we came from and that preparation is the key to winning. We can’t fall prey to the “talent is everything” types.

I Predict Thomas Never Plays A Down For Utah
I think he’s going to get his schollie pulled
I hope not...
Considering the coaches have given scholarships to recruits, and allowed players back on the team, for actually committing illegal acts. From what I can tell, it’s entirely possible Thomas felt he was 18.
It would be a shame that a kid’s whole future is essentially thrown away over something trivial – something caught before it did any damage, something that doesn’t impact his character or ability in any way.
The Reason I think the Schollie gets pulled
Is 19 year old dominating 17/18 year olds isn’t nearly as impressive
Also call me a cynic
But I don’t buy that he didn’t know his real age. Unless his parents had been lying to him about his real age since he was 5 or 6. Before he really showed any athletic prowess.
Then again it is in Texas, where High School Football makes some families crazy.
I doubt it.
This has nothing to do with him except he won’t get to play his senior year of football. Hopefully it means he can get graduated early and get to the u for spring ball.

Actually
It does have a lot to do with him. It calls into question whether he’s as good as people though, or if the fact that he has had the extra year to develop is what was making him so dominant, and whether.
He may still get a schollie, but it makes one wonder if he deserves to be as highly touted.
Meh. The coaches know how to evaluate talent
whether a kid is a 17-year-old high school player or a 21-year-old JC transfer. This kid is still the same athlete he was when everyone thought he was a year younger. He still has 4 years of football to play and develop, or more with a redshirt. I would be very surprised if the coaches pulled his offer based on some sudden change in perceived athletic ability.

He's exactly the same player he was before.
Coaches know how to judge a kid who plays against weaker competition just like they know how to judge a kid who plays top HS teams every week. The fact that he’s 19 and not 18 is irrelevant. When he shows up at Utah he’ll be exactly who we thought he was.
The only issue is that a 17-year-old might still grow a couple of inches taller. A 19-year-old probably won’t, so he’s 5’9" forever.
