BYU QUIT ON ROSCOE
That’s all you need to know. BYU Quit during this game. Oh And Heaps is a freaking pansy.
Jake Heaps...
Better watch out for friendly fire in the trenches from his “Band of Brothers.”

quitting is putting is mildly...
If they lay down in the 3rd quarter against us just imagine the rest of their games that mean bupkis… until it gets down to “WAC” season and they need to get bowl eligible….

BYU, I'd like to say congrats - You've just been Heapered!!! GO UTES!!!!!!
BYU, I’d like to say congrats – You’ve just been Heapered!!! GO UTES!!!!!!
Roscoe is a fraud!
Worst “coaching” I’ve ever seen… and that includes Jim Boylen.
Also, like I said last week, BYU has no heart… especially now that Utah has ripped it out and shat all over it!

BYU will tailspin now
The only thing they had left to play for was the “State Championship” That’s now gone. They may put up a bit of a fight for the USU game for “revenge” but the rest of the season they will tailspin.

Not as bad as Crowton...
…but similar in a lot of ways. Roscoe seems to manage to win the games he should, for the most part. He beats the lesser opponents…and finishes strong….
…but he always has a game like this early in the year. Think UCLA, Arizona, FSU, USU from last year…and now us.
If I’m a BYU fan…or even Holmoe…I’m contacting Leach. I don’t care about his “image”…BYU needs a winning coach, not a “Peter Priesthood” like Bronco. Winning covers up a lot of “ugly”.
Roscoe sucks in the 3rd game of the year.
He’s now 1-6 in the 3rd game of the year during his career.
That's an odd stat...
Wonder what it signifies?
by -FeloniousMonk on Sep 17, 2011 11:43 PM MDT up reply actions
That his teams struggle against good teams...
Generally you play good teams in the second or third weeks. Bronco has survived solely on beating cream puff MWC teams like New Mexico and CSU.
I don't know...
Seems like they often play tougher teams early… Texas & Oklahoma to name a couple.

His losses
I would say what it means, is that he can’t adjust when good teams have had a chance to review game film. But considering Roscoe doesn’t make in game adjustments why should we expect mid week adjustments.

Your analysis was spot on
You noted that BYU wilted and wa sout of their game emntirely allowing a mediocre Texas team to come back, while we fought like hell regardless of our play and that showed in this game when BYU screwed up and then just rolle dover and said “I want my mommies.”
Great analysis, and baby, our defense is for real.

I was hoping for something cathartic and thats what we got!!! Demons be gone!
I am a Utah Man sir... I will be till I die.
Is this the low point of BYU football?
…I’m probably overstating this because the Crowton years seem like a distant memory…but this, coupled with the whole of the 2010 season for BYU…things have to be looking very dire.
Hard to say . . .
BYU will probably beat up on some weak teams at the end of this season, and say how great they are. Next year will be the same story “Best group of young men I have ever, I would have to say, coached. Our goal, is of course, to win, I would say, a national, in my humble opinion, championship as it always been, provided we execute.”
Not what I expected.
I love being pleasantly surprised!

Wynn got his confidence back
Wynn looked good. Good zip on his passes. The Out that Dres turned into six was a nice pass, not to mention the one to Murphy at the end of the first half.
Not to mention being tough coming back after that drilling he took.
I was so worried he aggravated his rotator cuff...
I think it gets better from here…dare I dream that this is a 11-1 team?
I like our odds
Arizona can’t run the ball and I think we’ll have an edge against their OL. Not sure how good their D is but they have given up over 35, two weeks in a row (granted, to top 10 teams).
I think the big game will be AZ State and Washington will be tough be we at least get them at home coming off a bye.
by UteinBrooklyn on Sep 17, 2011 11:57 PM MDT up reply actions
Nobody really knows how good arizona is..
I can’t get a handle on them, they’ve played two really good teams and lost but I think we expected this, our D has gotten torched, it looks like injuries really took a toll, all we have basically is an amazing passing game, and not much else…
Arizona
Looked like the better team a lot of the time against Stanford. I think we could be an 11-1 team. Looking down the schedule, I don’t a see team I don’t think we can beat… still flying high from last night, but I don’t see a team I don’t think we should beat, either.

No run game
I know White broke off some big runs with the score 37-10, but until they can run the ball against a quality opponent when the game isn’t in question, I won’t be convinced. Kicking game could come back to bite us too.
by UteinBrooklyn on Sep 17, 2011 11:33 PM MDT up reply actions
Not sure I agree
White gets stronger as the game progress. According to the coaches, that’s his M.O. Utah’s O-line wore out BYU’s D-line, and White turned up the heat. I think we can expect to see much larger second half rushing numbers for the rest of the year from this offense.
by RunninUtes30 on Sep 18, 2011 11:54 AM MDT up reply actions
We will see...
rolling him out is a good thing,,, he looked good in the pocket in the second 1/2. He needed a big win!! I like how the run game suddenly emerged… I’m just scared it’s because BYU quit.
I am a Utah Man sir... I will be till I die.
They pointed out at Utah’s first series in the second half that BYU’s DL was slowing down and getting winded. As the game wore on it became more obvious. White has such burst and heart, I hope they can really get him going early in games. It will make the offense so much more dangerous.
by UteinBrooklyn on Sep 17, 2011 11:50 PM MDT up reply actions
Utah definitely wore 'em down.
Plus, I think BYU has major conditioning issues. This is 3 games now where they ran out of steam in the second half. I don’t think Roscoe Mendenpenis (Fletch, anyone?) knows how to manage the players’ energy or motivate.
by -FeloniousMonk on Sep 17, 2011 11:54 PM MDT up reply actions
Doesn’t seem like they have a good rotation. And they couldn’t run the ball so were on the field a lot.
by UteinBrooklyn on Sep 17, 2011 11:59 PM MDT up reply actions
Yup
Maybe Roscoe Geldinghall should have used that extra practice time for conditioning rather than cancelling it because according to him, the Cougs were “ahead of schedule”.

Whit is a second half runner
He got better against MSU, USC, and BYU in the second half. Even when getting stoned early against USC, BYU. That’s honestly a great type of runner to have.
Wynn was not that great
He hit a couple wide ass open guys. Watch that game again, he threw some unbelievably bad ones.

"I'm not upset about the U allegations," tweeted Cleveland Indians closer Chris Perez, who pitched at Miami. "I'm mad we didn't win anything while we were cheating."
Go ahead watch that game again
He also thread the needle on some tight throws and showed good velocity and arm strength on some deeper passes.
Was he perfect? Nope but if you think he played bad, than apparently you don’t know much about football.
Really?
I have seen him throw it deep and he hits so few, in three years now, that I am still concerned.

This isn't the same Throw it deep Offense of the past few years
Even if Wynn had never hurt his shoulder you weren’t going to see the deep passes like in years pass.
That said two passes in particular. The Out pass to Andersen, and the 30 yarder across the field to Murphy were two throws that showed his shoulder is just fine. They may not be the 60 yard passes, but both of those throws were across the field which is just as hard, if not harder, than a fly route.
Beauty
That’s what getting completely outcoached looks like. Give Norm, Sataki, and Chow 20 minutes to dissect the cougars game plan… and it’s a rout.
A+es all around… except Peterson (sen?). Hope he got those misses out of his system.

San Jose State is actually playing halfway decent this year
Their record doesn’t show it, but…
Cheated...
I feel cheated… BYU quit… I don’t know if Utah’s defense is THAT good when it comes to taking the ball away (two great games in a row) or if John White IV is a good running back (before the 4th he had like 14 carries for 18 yards)… BYU was blowing it up in the first quarter and I fully expect Davonte Christopher to miss the entire week of practice recovering from this game.
I was encouraged by Wynn’s play the second half, but is that also the result of BYU giving up? I’m just frustrated, and I expected MUCH more from BYU.

I think we need to give some credit to Utah.
The Utes wore ’em down on both sides of the ball. It takes a good team to demoralize another to such an extent.

Much Credit given
The Utes played tough. It was a physical game the first half. BYU just could match the athleticism of the Utes. The spin will be tat BYU gave the game away, but Utah won it. That said, they made themselves look bad much more than they made us look good.
Yeah, we beat them into submission.

Utah Forced those turnovers
The first one was a bad play by the Cougars, but other than that and the kick return one, Utah forced those fumbles.
Congrats, Utes
I got to watch a lot of the second half tonight. Totally dominating on both sides. And to do that to your rival…wow. Great performance.

The only thing that sucks:
is going to be listening to spin-meister zoobs going on about how Utah needed 7 turnovers (I think… I lost count) to win. I can hear it now, “If we coulda hung on ta the flippin’ ball, it woulda been a different game. Utah can’t score without our help.” Fucking idiots.
That said, I think Utah is getting things sorted, but there’s still some issues: kicking, o-line, Wynn(?).

Cheated
I feel cheated by BYU. We still need to work out a lot of kinks in our game and we didn’t get a chance to do that after they quit. I’m not sure the last time I saw a team lay down like that. There will be some BYU commits asking Jebus for an out tomorrow at church.
I don't feel cheated at all...
Our defense proved last week wasn’t a fluke with some huge turnovers that CHANGED the game. BYU quit, yes, but not until the game was over anyway. If they hadn’t quit, maybe the Utes win 35-17 or some other score – but this defense worked it tonight.
It's going to be a fun year...
they still have a lot to work on.
I am a Utah Man sir... I will be till I die.
Thoughts
I could just hear all of the Utah fans going crazy when Wynn threw an INT in the 2nd quarter. I’m glad he redeemed himself on the hookup with Dres.
And just like last week we couldn’t establish a run game in the first half again. Sure White broke away for some big runs with Utah up 37-10. We’re going to have to be multidementional or Wynn will just end up getting blitzed all game. And if he goes down… When Wynn went down I thought, there goes the season. The line between good and bad is small and I just thought how thin, depth wise, this team is on offense. Anyone know if Bergstrom returned?
The kicking game scares me too. He missed an extra point and a chip shot FG. Didn’t matter in this game, but ask Boise State how important FG kickers are.
I’m liking Utah’s defense more and more. They bend but don’t really give up big plays. In fact, they force turnover after turnover.
Overall, what a surprising game. Great to get a good one like that. HAHA
Well . . .
I am glad we have Andersen.

Reminds me of the old Tampa Bay Coach
Reporter: “Hey coach what do you think of your offenses execution?”
Coach: “I’m all for it it”.
I'm Disgusted with the Refs
Two of those shots looked like intentional head hunting and deliberate helmet to helmet. Another helmet shot on Chappuis on that interception when he was halfway on the ground and the TDS lineman head planted him. But they give Chaz a flag for hitting a guy out of bounds when it loooks like he’s trying to manage his balance on the line?
All night they were slow with the whistle to end a play, well after forward motion had stopped. It’s like they’re trying to promote injuries.
If anyone found my snowboarding gloves after storming the field following the 2004 TDS game, I want them back!

I don't know, I thought about that
I think Chappuis was tackled form behind as the Coug lowered the boom to tackle him and it was an innocent boo boo.

"I'm not upset about the U allegations," tweeted Cleveland Indians closer Chris Perez, who pitched at Miami. "I'm mad we didn't win anything while we were cheating."
He was tackled from behind
and his knee had already hit. Yes, the lineman was already in motion to hit him too and I don’t fault that. Had he just pancaked Chappuis I’d have no beef. But he lowered his head into it too, and that’s what bothers me.
If anyone found my snowboarding gloves after storming the field following the 2004 TDS game, I want them back!
He easily could have been called
I agree. I think that the calling on receivers was great and BYU was definitely guilty of many interferenes.

I'll have to watch the replay again.
The TDS player was barely pushed out of bounds, but he was trying to rover his balance and stay inside the line. As a defender, if you see someone acting like they’re inbounds ( and if the ref still hasn’t blown the whistle, as they were slow all night, ) you push him out. Rowe hit him hard ( thought for sure it was Walker or Martinez, ) but I don’t remember anything stupid about it.
If anyone found my snowboarding gloves after storming the field following the 2004 TDS game, I want them back!
The Refs
Missed some really dangerous tackles… anyone watch the FSU-OU game? An FSU player was carted off the field after a hit like that.
It’s not so much the Refs that bother me… it looked like downright dirty play by the Cougar defense.

After the game, he made excuses up the wazoo… saying “if we didn’t have so many turnovers, it’s a different game.”
That’s like me saying, “if we would’ve scored 3 more TDs we would’ve beaten Boise State in the Vegas Bowl.”
The point is… you DID have all those turnovers Heaps. You played terribly tonight and your team was humiliated.

In the past I always regarded this game with only passing interest based on my inherent distrust of devotional schools. And even though the few mormons I’ve met were quite nice, there is just something about the brainwashing aspect that rubs me the wrong way.
But this time, you guys are part of the conference, and I always pull for conference in OOC games. God help me, I even will root for Furd, U$C and Uclol. My reasoning is that family comes first, and if you look good, we look good.
Thanks for making us look good.

The Low Road
I too pull for the Pac-12 schools when they play OOC games, but after taking a little itty bitty peek at the U$C blog and after having read some comments like " PHUCK the rest of the conference in their OOC games", I may temper which Pac-12 teams I root for.
Conrgats on getting to 3-0.

I totally understand the sentiment you have. My experience with both U$C and Ucla fans has been spotty at best. In fact, during the Ucla game against Texas yesterday, while I was really rooting for the bruins, I will admit to feeling a bit of contentment at knowing how miserable Ucla fans would be.
It’s really sad because I grew up a Ucla fan, and have many good friends who are Ucla alums. But recently I’ve come across way too many Ucla fans who have soured me on them.
Maybe you and some others may turn that back around :)
Anyway, didn’t mean to hijack this thread. This is about Utah and revelling in their destruction of the mormons. Yay for them!

Agreed
I too have a spotty experience with UCLA fans when dealing with blogs. Guess being a half breed pisses off some of the pure breeds.
So since then I have decided to waste spend my valuable time with only certain blogs down to earth friendly types. =)

Thanks
Really appreciate your comment, but please don’t make the mistake of so many BYU fans and meld the religion and football team together. I don’t mean any disrespect, but I happen to be mormon and actively strong in the faith as well as a Utah fan through and through. Go ahead and dislike BYU, be my guest, but please be respectful to my faith. BYU and the LDS church are not one in the same. Again, no offense intended! Thanks!
No offense taken, and I apologize if I offended.
As I said, I have a few mormon acquaintances, and they are really very nice people. And I don’t have any biased or negative feelings toward the mormon faith. I view it in the same way as any other faith, from catholicism (as I was raised), to hinduism, to buddhism.
My feelings were more about having a University based on a religion. Regardless of religion, I just find that a place of higher education is not the right environment for a faith, just as I find a church is not the right place for a classroom.
But that’s just my personal opinion, and that certainly doesn’t mean it’s the only valid one around.
Enjoy your victory, and I sincerely hope Utah can win every remaining game except against Cal. Not for nothing, but you guys are easily my second favorite team in the conference.

Exactly
I share the same opinion, that things get messy with religious based schools. Thanks for the classy comment! Hope Cal rips the huskies on their home field so that they have no juice for our place the week after!
Well
Universities started as seminaries and higher learning actually came entirely ourt of religious training. It’s uhhh “nice” that people think secular learning is all there is, should be left to its self, etc., but there is more stupidity, inanity, and absolute bullshit in any University my brother than there is in religion. If you don’t think so, sit through a half dozen meetings in a university sometime or take time to read up on how much research and education is fluff to keep professors employed.
I love University and I am still in college and never want to stop taking classes, but the biggest lying sacks of shit I have ever seen and met were so called scientists, I’ve never met a person as self deceived in religion as I have in academia and science.
I am trained in both the sciences and in the humanities and I love both literature and the study of causal relationhips. Your experience may be varied, in my experiene most folks come out of college with a cutessy attitude toward religion becaus ethey have simply been indoctrinated anew, not because they actually have a truth they can say trumps any old ones.

Wow. Just wow.

Ditto.
Facts are, zealot or not, we’re all “self deceived”. It’s a major part of being human.

Well
YOu needed to be i the business I was in, It was called science, but they were hired whores in litigation and Mr., both plaintiff and defense lied their asses off.

That's your problem.
Lawyers (like me) need “scientists” to make stuff up to support their side. Whether it’s construction defect whores or medical whores or “valuation” whores (the worst, in my experience), those aren’t scientists. The bias is too great.

A lot of Ute fans also have a hard time separating the religion from the school.
I grew up non-LDS in Utah and it was the self-righteous attitudes of the BYU fans, and the fact that many of the LDS members I had dealings with acted with that same attitude, that made me a life-long Ute fan. Back then, as a “non-Mo” in this state, one had no choice but to root for Utah. It wasn’t just a personal preference, but also a reaction against the predominant stifling culture.
Nowadays, of course, I try to keep it all separate, but there will always be some resentment. It still bothers me that our state’s flagship public institution hasn’t gotten the private (and public, truth be known) backing so many other state schools enjoy because it’s had to compete with an institution run by the predominant religion. Utah (the school) has done some amazing things, considering that disadvantage, but just imagine what it could accomplish if it had the private monetary base of BYU.
And don’t get me started on my feelings towards BYU owning a PBS station, in addition to BYU TV. This market does not need two PBS affiliates when there’s barely enough public support to fund one… yeah, anyway, as you can see, I’ll always be a little resentful.

...and for some reason BYU thinks their football program is a missionary tool.
…at least they got the “tool” part right.
Ha!
So at church, High Priest’s Group was a tad light and soemone asked why? I said:
“I think a bunch of guys likely gouged out their eyes watching the game and are having a hard time making it in today.”

I have never seen such an epic second half meltdown
combined with beatdown before. Utes were fired up, and the Cougars quit. Whit could’ve gone in for another TD at the end to make it 61-10, easily, but I think he was afraid of getting arrested for “desecration of human remains.”

Ha!
Yep, Utah could’ve easily punked that corpse like a necrophiliac, but then they’d be labeled just as “classless” as their fans… or cheap-shoting, head-hunting BYU players.

Well I am hoping byu runs the table the rest of the year.
Our win would look pretty cheap if byu becomes a cupcake.
