Jiggy Watkins dismissed
Multiple reports are coming out that Larry K has dismissed Jiggy from the team. As of right now, we only have the report, no details have been given.
This is strange to me. It appeared that Jiggy had turned a corner and was doing well. Not sure what caused this, but I trust Coach Larry K. There is a lot we don't know about the situation. In the meantime, this could mean more playing time for Anthony Odunsi and Kareem Storey, which in my mind is good for the future of the program.

Yay
This means more arguments between Comrade Crimson and Coach’s bro. Yippee!
On a serious note, this sucks. I don’t know what happened, but honestly, Coach Larry K has done enough this season already, that I too give him my trust.
Jiggy was the best player no doubt, but the team as a whole had begun to show improvement. I just hope they can continue to show the same improvement after losing their best player.
Plus, in all honesty, they’ve exceeded my expectations for this season.
agreed.
and since we aren’t going anywhere this season, why not turn the reins over to the young guys earlier…..I really hope that the Comrade and Bernie/luey arguments stay away. There is enough of that at Comrade’s blog.

I have turned over a new leaf...
No more feuding. The shock and awe of discovering CC’s blog has worn off. I was incensed at first… the content there and the duration it has been going on but it’s behind me… for good. The insults and vulgarity are there for others to enjoy.
sounds good
I really like both of you, and appreciate your insights. GO UTES!

Love it when I beat Sean to a story,
though no doubt his will be better than mine when he posts it. : )

Wow...wow...
thats all i can really think right now. No doubt this is a blow to the team, but people need to keep in mind that Jiggy obviously was the one to act in a manner that caused this situation. I know people will question whether it was necessary for Coach K to actually dismiss Jiggy or not, but in the end we don’t know the details. I trust that Coach knows what he is doing.
On that note, a part of me is happy that something like this is happening, for the long term benefits of course. This sends a very firm message – Coach K runs this team not the players. I don’t know if it happened with Boylen, but I know from for a fact that Ray Giacoletti had absolutely no control over the players. Players walked all over him, so Its nice to know we have a coach that won’t take that kind of garbage anymore, regardless of who the player is. We officially have a coach with a spine.
With that said, its sad to see Jiggy go, and this absolutely hurts the team. Obviously there was some selfish actions on Jiggy’s part. Lets hope things get better from here.
Well...
That sucks. Oh well. Glad to have a coach that stands up for the team.
Can't shoot consistently
can’t hit a free throw, has a bad attitude, is late for meetings, is no the poster boy for fitness.
I say no great loss. Time to remove cancerous personalities on the team and start building for next year.
Play the new guys. After another 40 point loss, what’s the big difference.

As long as it makes us better, I agree.
But watching Carlon Brown do his thing this year, I wonder if the right guy left the team after that season.
I think LK is a totally different beast than Boylen. I guess my point is, there are always at least two sides to these stories. Right now Jiggly looks like the guilty party. Three years from now? Who knows.

Paul Harvey - and the rest of the story
As Jiggly was ’ the star’ of the team, got lots of touches, and played major minutes, what possibly could be his beef with the team?
No limo to pick him up and take him to practice?
As the old cliche goes, “there is no I in team”. I think it is safe to say, Coach K made the right call.

It's a big loss...
I said as much when he was dismissed earlier in the season, He was the difference, probably, between the 4 wins we have and the potential of a one-win season. Now, I’m guessing he’ll be the difference between the four wins we have and what could have been a five, six or seven win season.
Disappointing.
Does it matter?
4 wins means we don’t go down in the record books as the worst team in the history of the state of Utah (actually, 2 wins meant that), so winning 3 more games really means very little to me. I’m almost glad to see this happen, because Jiggy was gone at the end of the season regardless, and I’d like to know now if there’s someone on the team who could take his place and could use the experience to get better. I’ve been following the team only minimally, but I assume there’s a backup guard who could benefit from the extra minutes.
Everyone hates a pink-shirt-wearing communist.

Yes, I think it does matter...
I like to watch my team win. I don’t know about you, though. I’d rather watch them win three more games than finish the season on a seventeen game losing streak.
With a self absorbed ass hole as the reason?
Thanks no. You are too young to recall the Adrian Dantley Jazz my good friend. The guy could score with and on anyone, got hundreds of FTs because they had ot foul him to stop him, and defended like a . . .well wait . . .did he ever defend anyone. . .did he care about anyone but himself. . . was the guy on our team, the one bright spot. . . and the team never looked back after he left and only went up, becoming a team rather than the Adrian Dantley show.
This Jiggy kid, he was talented, but sometimes you have to put yourself aside. Oh, and not saying that Jiggy was in fact jusst like AD, but . . .the team thing. . . I think it is a valid comparison. If you like to see your team win, support its growth into something better so it will win. Like, oh, letting another QB play so someone can taake reps when Wynn goes down for the season again.
"Gentlemen, it is better to have died as a small boy than to fumble this football."--John Heisman
"I'm not upset about the U allegations," tweeted Cleveland Indians closer Chris Perez, who pitched at Miami. "I'm mad we didn't win anything while we were cheating."
I'm not saying that at all...
C’mon. Obviously I don’t want a cancer on the team. My point is that, ultimately, this whole thing has been a disappointment. Jiggy is a good player and I hate the thought that he devolved into this.
That’s my point. Ideally, Jiggy would have overcome his problems, learned from his mistakes and things would be hunky dory.
That isn’t the case now, right? It’s disappointing – not that he was dismissed, but that he couldn’t get his shit in order to help his team. So, yes, I still think it’s a big loss. It doesn’t mean I want him and his issues on the team…just that I wish it would have worked out.
Agreed
Disappointing regardless, but time to move on the second it was announced. This Bball team has so many nightmares on it, I’m just in slow mo watching the particles decellerate and fall from the impact hoping an ambulance makes it before I bleed out next season.

Looks like Jiggy has been missing out on practice the last couple days...
Without even calling the coaches or getting a hold of anyone on the team. It’s a good call. That stuff can’t be tolerated. Still, it’s disappointing.
Anthony Odunsi Playing more is definitely not a good thing
His minutes have really tailed off over the season because, well, he just isn’t that good. I am not expecting much from him at Utah. Storey on the other hand is very exciting and could add a lot. We are gonna miss Jiggy’s scoring but if it gets Kareem ahead of the curve I am all for an extra loss or two this year.
true
i guess im the only one holding out hope for him.

Well there goes our other 2 wins of the season.
The whole season is a loss now. :)
(shrugs) – I hope this translates into improvement for Odunsi and Storey, who I think are the future of the team.
The future...
of our team is either on the sidelines right now (Dean, Dotson) or not even on campus (Loveridge, future recruits, et al).
Bad news for this season, good news for the program
I trust there was just cause for the dismissal. One of Larry K’s most important jobs this year is redefining the culture of the program and this is a big step in the right direction. I’m always in favor of giving kids a second chance, but never a third.
Sad news...
Maybe it was just too difficult for an old dog like Watkins to make such huge alterations in his game and BB mentality. He had to know he was toast if he goofed up again. I hope he has the toughness to stick it out and gets his degree. If he can handle the sometimes brutal twists of life the way he puts his head down and pile drives on the court, he’ll be alright. Good luck and best wishes to him down the road.
What is Jiggy's problem?
Already suspended once this year. He just doesn’t learn!
It’s clearly an indication of a man struggling with maturity and lacking any leadership whatsoever.
He was our best player, but it seriously sounds to me like Jiggy was doing more harm than good. Gotta let him go.
Good move.
I don't read the script. The script reads me.
I wish I knew the full story here
Something is not adding up. Since his first suspension, I thought we were seeing a new Jiggy, and for that matter, a whole new Ute team. It seemed like they had all turned a corner and were reaching the max of success that can be expected from this group.
I’ll bet there’s more to this story than Jiggy simply saying “Ah, eff it.”
I’ll assume LK didn’t make a rash decision here, but something doesn’t smell right. On the court, Jiggy had made a change—as much as I think LK or anyone else could expect of a kid halfway through his senior year. Jiggy was never going to become Stockton or Ricky Rubio. But it seemed like he was altering his game somewhat to look for a pass or even pull up and shoot rather than ram through the lane like a bowling ball.
I really hope that whatever Jiggy did to get kicked off left LK with no other choice, because otherwise a move like this can haunt a kid for the rest of his life and do more harm to the man in life than to a team for a handful of weeks and likely losses anyway.

Agreed...
However, after that ugly loss at Colorado Coach K set a zero tolerance policy and it looks like he stuck to it. Good for the program, bad for this year’s team. Hopefully they can rally and still win what looked to be the winnable games (ASU, USC), especially at home.
Like I mentioned above...
What I heard is that Jiggy failed to show up to practice for two or three days and didn’t answer any calls or take any messages from the coach. He essentially went AWOL and that was that.
No absolute proof of this, however, and I’m sure we’ll never know the whole story, but that’s how I heard it.
NO! No no no no no no no!
If there’s no Jiggy, how can I get the song popping in my head from reading mentions on this blog? :(
