Around SBN: Ray Allen Fighting Age, Injury And His New Role

Utah basketball . . .

Is bad. It's extremely bad, I mean, it's beyond bad. We're 3-11 with a 40 point loss to Colorado? Really? Losing I get, but by 40? To those guys? Maybe we should drop roundball for a couple years and then rebuild without expectations. How is recruiting going? Is coach K still screaming at the guys? Is that helping? Are there empty seats in the H Center? You bet there are. This is, to me, proof positive that Hill is not a good AD at all, he is simply a luck guy, sometimes he gets lucky, sometimes he sucketh. We need a real AD now, and maybe some better recruits. Well, yeah, maybe a lot better recruits.

Bad timing!!!

Don’t overreact. Dr. Hill hired Urban Myers, Coach Whit, McBride and Majerus. So basically Dr. Hill hired us arguably the three best football coaches and best basketball coach in school history. He was the AD for our 2 BCS busting seasons and took us to the PAC-12.

So he struck out with Giac and Boylen, big deal. Everyone thought Giac and Boylen were the solution.

As for Coach K, he can only go up and his first recruiting class looks great (getting the best in state recruit helps).

So be patient with Dr. Hill.

I actually don't think the Giac or Boylen hirings are the problem.

I think the Giac and Boylen FIRINGS (and the way he handled finding their replacements) were the problem. So maybe the Boylen hiring was a problem, but only because of the way the Giac firing was handled.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m behind Dr. Hill, but I don’t like how he’s handled the end of the last two BBall coaching jobs.

Everyone hates a pink-shirt-wearing communist.

the incoming recruiting class

is by far the best that Utah has had in years. That is not saying much I know, but we are going to turn this thing around. Next year, look for a starting five of Dean, Dotson, Loveridge, Washburn, and Foster-not bad. If Foster is hurt and retires, Jeremy Olsen perhaps comes in to fill that spot. Either way, we are going to be MUCH better next year.

Love the Jazz, Utes, and BoSox.

AGREED

Regardless of whether Foster comes back, we are going to be much better. We’ll have a lot more size – still probably not enough – and depth. The 6’11" transfer from SUU looks pretty skilled, athletic and tough – he likes to take it to the rim. We’ll have him for three years, too. The coaches are still recruiting hard to bring in another GOOD player or two in the spring signing period. My guess is that we’ll keep a few of the young guys who show promise and maybe guys who are going to be seniors who’ve had a year in the system but there will probably be 3-5 players whose scholarships won’t get renewed.

My starting 5 for next year....

Dean, Dotson, Loveridge, Farr, Foster

Bench guys would be Storey, Martin, Washburn, and maybe one or two of the other incoming guys.

But those 8 that I just listed I like as a rotation cuz Loveridge can play the 4.

Praise Allah...

and I’m not Muslim! Although I live with one as a son-in-law. That was a gritty, balls out effort from our guys… all 8 of ‘em. Yeah, 8. Sat we’ll see some more guys. The talent is emerging under some good supervision. The supervision may be somewhat surprised at the level of talent even they had underestimated! That is a win, win, I don’t care who you are!
Ben, where you been?

Love the Jazz, Utes, and BoSox.

Only 7 played in the win over WSU

Actually only 7 players played against WSU – two who could have played sat out.
