Reshawn Hooker - Medical Redshirt?

Reshawn Hooker has missed the past three games due to injury, after playing in the previous three, and starting a couple. In his time Hooker showed real promise, and was better than any other LB to suit up for the Utes this year not named Trevor Reilly.

With Hooker having only played in three games (Less than the maximum for a medical redshirt) is Hooker really hurt enough to have missed all this time, or did the coaching staff just decide to keep him out to try and get a medical redshirt, so he'll still be around for four years. Does anyone know how injured he was/is, or what is injury even was?

With the team out of Bowl contention it definitely makes sense not to play him against Colorado (if he was even healthy), and try to get this season back. But the question I wonder, is could he have been playing the past couple weeks? I don't know exactly what his injury was, or if he could have been playing, but if he was healthy and could contribute I hope the staff didn't hold him out just to save him for next year. Especially since he was one of only two decent line backers all season.
