Around SBN: Ray Allen Fighting Age, Injury And His New Role

Who has you excited?

As you all know, Coach W. and crew have managed to put together the most impressive class of recruits Utah has ever had. The Utes have five four-star recruits and more than a dozen three star recruits. They stacked up on the lines and picked up some vital pieces for skill positions.

This class features a lot of stand-out prospects, but I want to know who stands out to you. Take the poll, my thoughts are after the break.

Star-divide

It's an exciting list, but with all the film I've watched, I have to say the player that gets me most excited has to be Reshawn Hooker. He plays with incredible ferocity and has a prototypical NFL body. I can see him turning into a terrific edge rusher, and he has the speed to take away the running game to the edge (which we struggled with this year).

I also can't get enough of Travis Wilson, and I'm really hopeful that Visesio Salt will be able to line up next to Star and create havoc in the interior.

2012 newcomer

in 2011 if Jordan Wynn had been healthy, I believe we could have had at least 3 more wins for an 11-2 record.

Against UW, statistically we were beating the Huskies up to halftime and moving the ball at will. If Wynn had come out in the second half, I truly believe we would have won.

I also think the ASU game would also turned out differently.

Therefore the QB position gets my vote. On paper, Travis Wilson may be the best QB prospect we have brought in since Scott Mitchell.

I could be wrong about Wilson, because I have seen only highlights of him. If we had voted last year, my impact newcomer for 2011 was Langi and right now he seems to be struggling.

That being said, I like all the names on the list above and hope they will be productive during their new school.

The guy who really intrigues me

Carlos Lozanoa, a.k.a. IHOP because he’s going to be serving pancakes all day.

6’5" 385 (Called conservative by Whit), and he also plays soccer and basketball.

Hopefully he's serving them

Not eating them. He’s going to have to get down to an actual 360, I think. He looks closer to 400 than 380 right now.

I like the guy, but he looks slow on film and I have concerns about his ability to keep up over a whole game. Even if he doesn’t get any lighter, though, he’ll be great to have on short-yardage situations.

My thoughts too

While I like the nick IHOP, he could stand to do a ‘Jarod’ and spend some time at Subway otherwise he may also be called aka – Jabba, as in Hut.

Voted for Salt

because I think he can be a flat out beast on the line, whichever side he ends up playing.

He is very exciting

As a JUCO, I expect he’ll be able to contribute immediately. With he and Star forming the interior of the line, teams are going to have to find another way to succeed than running up the middle.

It doesn’t hurt that he looks like his face is made out of a steak.

A lot of votes for York

I’d be more excited for him if we didn’t have White in the backfield already. That’s going to dilute his impact.

Pros and Cons of Wilson (who I voted for)

Pros
Like Brock osweiller, he’s tall (6.6-6.7) but can continue to move pretty well,
He’s an Elite 11 qb that got a lot of praise from the coaches there
his film shows that he’s not afraid to bang if that’s what’s needed for an extra couple of yards
Hansen’s faster, but Wilson appears to be the better passer (on film).
We have an insane class of OL’s, WR’s, and RB’s to help counter his learning curve next year, whereas in two years, we’ll have lost many of them, so I’m all for him going next year.

Cons
I really think he’s going to need to pull an Osweiller here and develop a faster, more compact throwing motion just to make sure his long arms don’t lead to a lot of sacks.
He’s a freshman (but hey, it worked for Barkley, and regardless of what others say, we have the OL, RB, and Receiver talent to make this counter valid).

others...

or the fact that we have plenty of other good recruits coming in?? Lutui has potential to be a savage… 3 year starter and as good as any guard in Utah history… and if he plays center he could be a Rimington kind of guy.

Sione Tupouata has a lot of talent…

I was skeptical on Hunter Dimick… then watched him play live… and a lot of his film and believe he is going to be a sensational Ute… and best player from this H.S. class outta Utah.

The list of others is tremendous

I voted others

after watching the team’s footage on Lutui and Dimick. I realize this is weeks after the fact, but I intentionally hold off watching the footage until after LOI and Superbowl, it gives me one more dose of football before lulling off into the inferior sports.

I realize some guys’ tape is better selected than others, but that’s my reference point. Lutui’s my favorite and Dimick my diamond in the rough. Lutui has a motor. I love the guy. He takes his guy out, continues downfield looking for another victim, and only once the play has stopped does he stop and do his Clay Matthews impression. He’ll be a crowd favorite. Dimick knows sacks, which is key to our man press working. I’m just not sure he’ll be quick and strong enough for the PAC12.

Poutasi is my ace though.

Talent is unlike anything Utah has brought in.

I'm still stuck on Natalie Portman

"Gentlemen, it is better to have died as a small boy than to fumble this football."--John Heisman

"I'm not upset about the U allegations," tweeted Cleveland Indians closer Chris Perez, who pitched at Miami. "I'm mad we didn't win anything while we were cheating."

When did she sign?

Is she going to play kicker?
