Possible signing for Basketball

On Monday, I was listening to the Larry Krystkowiak Coach's Show on ESPN 700 with Bill Riley (@ESPN700bill). First of all, that is a fantastic show and if you can make time to listen to it on this coming Monday night, its worth a listen.

There was a segment when the coach took live callers who asked questions. One caller claimed to be from "the southern part of the state", and he wondered why Larry was not going after "the kid from Green River".

Now, most of you are probably saying "WHO?" and "Where in the world is Green River?" First answer: Justin Johnson, who led all scorers in Utah this year (around 34 points per, they are still in the playoffs). Second Answer: Just off I-70, its on your way to Moab or Monticello. Great little town, great little watermelon festival in the summer. Aren't you glad you read this?

Justin is a 6'6" forward who, in addition to the big scoring output, rebounds the ball like crazy. Its impossible to know his average because those numbers were only reported to the Des News a few times this year. Of the ones reported, he has had games of 24, 19, 26, 21 and 9 boards. In a clip below, it is mentioned that he hauled in 37 boards in one game.

I get it. You are thinking to yourself "He played 1A ball, who cares?" And that is a fair assessment. That being said......those numbers don't get put up every year in 1A ball and in my opinion, it would be worth it to bring the kid in during the summer to see what he has going for him.

Back to my original story. Larry mentioned that he was not allowed to talk any specifics on any recruits until they had signed on the dotted line. But he added...."I can tell you that we are actively recruiting him."

So, what do you think?

Here is a link to a feature that KSL did on him last week (includes a video of highlights, he looks reasonably athletic to me!) And here is a link to his Bio and game stats from the Deseret News.
