#14 Utah Utes @ #4 TCU Horned Frogs Game Day Thread
DO IT NOW, UTAH!

What to expect when Utah has the ball: I still think the Utes will stay fairly conservative in this one. Eddie Wide and Sausan Shakerin will need to step it up big time because I have a feeling Utah will look for ball control for much of the game. Jordan Wynn might be good, but he's still starting in only his second game (first on the road). That's going to be difficult to overcome, so I don't foresee Aaron Roderick calling too many aggressive plays that put Wynn in the position to make those rookie mistakes.
What to expect when TCU has the ball: They like to mix it up on offense, but I think the Frogs - like Utah - will stick to the ground. That isn't to say Andy Dalton won't throw, but the Utes' pass defense is one of the best in the nation.
How Utah wins: No turnovers, contain the Frog offense and hope the defense can force a few turnovers themselves. Even one interception or fumble could be the difference here.
Lucky G. O'Utes is ready for the biggest game of the year. He feels it. Do you?

New Mexico @ #16 Utah Game Day Thread
What to expect when Utah has the ball: Whatever they want. Seriously, it's the Lobos. They'll use this as a learning experience for Jordan Wynn. I really don't see why they can't open it up a bit and get the offense some momentum heading into TCU.
What to expect when New Mexico has the ball: Probably not much. The Lobos aren't an offensive threat. In fact, they're abysmal all around.
How Utah wins: Show up and don't turn the ball over. Not hard. If Utah loses, it will trump UNLV as the worst loss in program history.
Lucky G. O'Utes is ready for some Loobs (here).

Wyoming-#19 Utah Game Day Open Thread
Sorry for the lack of updates, I was on vacation the last week. But I'm back and ready to go just in time for Utah's Halloween showdown with the Wyoming Cowboys!
What to expect when Utah has the ball: What we've come to expect. I don't anticipate the Utes to change their gameplan for this game. They'll probably run the ball for a good amount of plays, but the passing game will certainly play a role in how the offense moves the ball down field.
What to expect when Wyoming has the ball: Wyoming's offense ranks second to last in the conference in points per game and yards per game. They aren't very good with the ball and when they do have it, they're more inclined to run - yet even there they struggle (only fifth in rushing yards per game). So expect a very sluggish offense that has difficulty moving the ball.
How Utah wins: Find some momentum on the offensive end. This won't be a shootout, so if the Utes lose, it's because their offense turned the ball over a half-dozen or so times. Really, though, Utah shouldn't lose this one. The Cowboys might be improving, but they're still a long way from contending against the likes of Utah. If they somehow pull out the win, it'll be because Utah melted down themselves.
Lucky G. O'Utes is ready for the black out!
Boo!

Air Force-#19 Utah Game Day Open Thread
What to expect when Utah has the ball: I honestly don't know. The Falcons have a really good defense and I'm sure they won't give up too much on the ground and through the air. Because of this, I'm more inclined to believe the Utes will run a more balanced offense. But who the hell knows.
What to expect when Air Force has the ball: That pesky option. They love it and they'll run it until the cows come home. Well that isn't entirely true - as these aren't the Fisher DeBerry Falcons. But don't expect Air Force to bomb it down field all day.
How Utah wins: No turnovers, defend the option as well as humanly possible and find some offensive flow. Talent wise, Utah is better. It's at home and the weather conditions aren't going to impact the play of the field (there might be scattered showers until noon, but that's it). Basically, this is a game they should win. If they lose, I'm going to say it's probably due to turnovers.
Lucky G. O'Utes wants to clip some Falcon wings!

#24 Utah-UNLV Gameday Open Thread
What to expect when Utah has the ball: With how poorly the Rebels defend the run, I would expect Utah to pound them into submission through the ground. Eddie Wide has proven he has the tools to do just that and with the return of Shaky Smithson and Sausan Shakerin, the Utes aren't hurting too badly in that department. Will Wide have a career game? Wouldn't surprise me.
What to expect when UNLV has the ball: Their offense is certainly powerful at times and I expect Omar Clayton to force the ball down field. Their pass offense ranks 19th in the nation and since Frank Summers graduated, their running game has certainly thinned a bit compared to the past few years.
How Utah wins: Show up. It's cliched and I've said it so many times before. But the Rebels aren't good. A good team doesn't give up 60+ and 50+ points in consecutive games. So the Utes have no business losing a game like this. With their recent loss to UNLV in Vegas still fresh in their minds, I expect them to be ready and not looking toward their next opponent.
Lucky G. O'Utes is feelin' a new winning streak. It's two, can they make it three?
I feel a win in the capital of sin!

Utah-Colorado State Gameday Open Thread
What to expect when Utah has the ball: I guess it depends on the weather. If it's slippery and snowy, expect a more run-based offense. How that develops without Matt Asiata is a big question and I'd expect - if Sausan Shakerin plays - the coaching staff to mix it up between him, Eddie Wide and Shaky Smithson. Hopefully at least one of them can step up if the weather doesn't permit a more pass-oriented game from Terrance Cain.
What to expect when Colorado State has the ball: Read pretty much what I said about the Utes. The Rams rank toward the bottom in the conference in run offense, often relying on the arm of Grant Stucker. That doesn't bode well if weather is bad enough they can't throw the ball down field. However, if the weather is at least clear (though it'll probably be snot-stuck-to-the-face-cold), they most certainly will stick with what has worked this season.
How Utah wins: The Rams aren't better than the Utes. The simple fact is, this is a game Utah should win. This will mark the fourth this season and so far, they're 3-1 in those games. Not bad. But with the weather being a factor, it could certainly neutralize things just a bit - which clearly favors Colorado State. If that happens, expect Utah to run a very conservative offense, relying more on their defense to get them through the game. I know I said I expected an offensive explosion from the Utes this week, but I'm a bit more reserved now that I've seen the weather conditions.
With that said, I still see Utah winning comfortably.
Lucky G. O'Utes proved his luck isn't gone just yet two weeks ago. Will his dancin' wheel Utah to another victory today?

Louisville-Utah Gameday Open Thread
What to expect when Utah has the ball: With Utah really being banged up at the running back spot, Terrance Cain and the receivers are going to have to step up. The Utes will try to establish a run, but I think they might lean on the pass today with Matt Asiata and Eddie Wide both battling injuries.
What to expect when Louisville has the ball: Louisville's offense is a bit different than when the two teams met a couple years ago, so don't expect a ton of passing. Victor Anderson, the 2008 Big East Rookie of the Year, is a solid running back who'll test Utah's run defense. In their loss against Kentucky last week, Anderson rolled for 110-yards and a touchdown. So we should expect a run-dominated game plan again this week.
How Utah wins: Stop the run and find consistency on offense. That sounds so easy in words, but we saw last week how difficult it can really be. Louisville might not have the total amount of talent as the Ducks and this game is at home, but that doesn't mean the Utes can get away with the type of play we saw last week. If it's a repeat performance, not only will they lose, but they'll lose badly. If they clean up the offense and hunker down on defense, though, this is a game they should win.
Lucky G. O'Utes' dancin' didn't help the Utes for only the second time since he's been doing the jig. Hopefully he turns it around this week.
Me luck returns today with a Ute victor-ay

Utah-Oregon Gameday Open Thread
Let's push it to seventeen, Utah!
What to expect when Utah has the ball: The Oregon run defense might be the biggest weakness, so the Utes will exploit it. I don't know if Matt Asiata will play, but they do have capable backups and I'm expecting a good portion of the game plan to revolve around the ground game. Yet don't underestimate Terrance Cain's ability in both the passing and running departments.
What to expect when Oregon has the ball: Chip Kelly is known for his offenses and the Ducks certainly can move the ball. Don't let their first two games fool you, they are capable of scoring. Look for Jeremiah Masoli to test Utah's secondary, but he's also quick on his feet and can rack up a good amount of yards. Against Purdue, he rushed for 84, though Boise State did keep him in check two weeks ago - as he only recorded 14-yards on the ground.
How Utah wins: Don't turn the ball over. That's the biggest concern right now. If Utah can keep a handle on the ball, their offense should move fairly well and put up some points. If they turn it over, however, the game is over. Obviously the offense needs to click and the Utes will need to establish a running game, but I think turnovers will prove to be key in this contest.
Lucky G. O'Utes is hoping to dance his way to a seventeenth straight victory.
