THE WOLFMAN COMETH! JOHN WHITE IV CARRIES UTAH TO VICTORY IN SUN BOWL
John Fucking White!
Down 14 early in the fourth quarter, the Utes mounted an epic rally behind the arm of Jon Hays and the legs of John White, forced overtime and then STUNNED the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in overtime on a TOUCHDOWN run by the Wolfman himself, JOHN WHITE IV.
White also becomes the SINGLE SEASON RUSHING LEADER in UTAH FOOTBALL HISTORY.
Can I get a wolfman yell?!?

Triple option no stranger to Utah
Utah's opponent in the Sun Bowl runs an offense that is pretty unique to college football. It's pesky. It's efficient and it can eat up an entire quarter in one drive (okay, maybe not that much time, but you get the idea).
Of course, it's the triple option and it's the offense Georgia Tech adopted when Paul Johnson became the head coach back in 2007.
It's a tricky offense to game plan against and I'm sure the Utes are well aware of this.
Prior to accepting the Yellow Jackets' offer to become head coach, Johnson ran his triple option at Navy. In fact, Utah actually played the Midshipmen the year he departed Annapolis for Atlanta. He didn't coach in the game, but Ken Niumatalolo, his offensive coordinator (now current head coach of Navy) and future triple option protege, ran the same basic offense in the Poinsettia Bowl - a 35-32 Utah victory.
Georgia Tech and Utah similar foes
I hope you all had a great Christmas.
Of course, now that it's over, we're closing in on the Sun Bowl and the official end of the 2011 season.
For Utah, it's a chance to right things after a bit of a bump in the road against Colorado back in November. Georgia Tech, on the other hand, is just looking for any second-half traction heading into a new year.
The Yellow Jackets' path to the Sun Bowl is actually almost opposite of how the Utes' season played out.
Utah started '11 dropping four of their first seven games and falling to 0-4 in Pac-12 play. By late October, a bowl game looked increasingly unlikely. But, as we all now know, they've finished the season ripping off four of their final five to not only finish with a winning record, but also locking up a bowl bid.
Georgia Tech, though, began their season surging, winning their first six games and climbing as high as 12th nationally before the bottom kind of fell out.
Since that solid start, the Yellow Jackets are just 2-4 in their final six games. Because of that, they back their way into the Sun Bowl with a respectable, but hardly expected after that quick start, 8-4 record.
Sun Bowl Q&A with Georgia Tech blog
I know it's hard to believe, with all the coaching news the past two weeks, that there is a bowl game coming up - but, believe it or not, there is.
We'll get to previewing and taking a closer look at the Yellow Jackets in the coming days, but for now, here is a Q&A I did with From The Rumble Seat, a pretty awesome Georgia Tech blog.
A few days ago, I answered some questions for them and you can read that Q&A here.
Our Q&A after the jump...
Utah to meet Georgia Tech in 2011 Sun Bowl
Utah has been invited to play in the 2011 Sun Bowl.
They will play the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, a team Utah defeated in the 2005 Emerald Bowl.
This marks the Utes' first trip to the Sun Bowl since defeating New Mexico 26-0 in 1939 - the program's first ever bowl game.
The Sun Bowl will be on New Year's Eve and air on CBS.
