Malibu, CA (Sports Network) - Jonathan Tavernari posted a game-high 17 points and collected 10 rebounds to lead the BYU Cougars to lopsided 82-53 victory over the Pepperdine Waves in a non-league bout at Firestone Fieldhouse.
Jimmer Fredette tallied 16 points and dished out five assists in the win for BYU (2-0), while Lee Cummard added 13 points. Chris Miles chipped in 10 points for the Cougars.
Keion Bell led Pepperdine (1-2) with nine points to go with seven rebounds and five assists.
The Waves were held to 40.9 percent from the floor during the first half, enabling BYU to take a 32-21 lead into the break.
The Cougars shot at a scorching 60.9 percent clip during the second stanza en route to the 29-point victory.
The Waves shot a mere 35.8 percent from the floor in the loss.
