It can't get worse than this

A loss? Check.
Quarterback gone at least two weeks? Check.
Best running back out for the season? Check.
The season defined by a crappy football game? Who knows, but it sure is looking that way.

And so the 2007 season kicks off with Utah repeating its performance in Pasadena. Except at least Utah got out of that game healthy. Now they've got to find a new quarterback, one that hopefully doesn't have the initials T and G. Then they've got to go out and find a back that can at least get a 1/2 yard on a run, which -- and this isn't really a lie, either -- would be an improvement over what we saw tonight.

I'm not going to break down the game, because who really needs to revisit such horror, but I can sum it up in one word: shit. Yes, shit. It was shit on top of shit with shit sprinkled on it for good measure. And to make matters worse, it probably means we're in for a shit season, with even more shitty games. Better go take a sniff of your toilet bowl, because that strench is coming to a stadium near you.

To be fair, things weren't all bad. Utah's offense looked decent enough early in the game, until Asiata went down. Then it went from decent to bad and the finally from bad to worse after BJ exited the game. Whatever Tommy Grady is, he is NOT a D1-A starting quarterback. The guy may have a rocket for an arm, but he couldn't connect with a receiver if he were more open than the wide fields of Montana.

But let's be realistic here, there were issues. Firstly, this team went nearly an entire quarter without getting one damn first down. Is it really that hard to get 10 yards at least once on a few plays? I can see struggling on 3rd downs, but when you're constantly struggling to get a first down every drive, things are not going right.

Secondly, BJ was carving up that cheap secondary of OSU and the second Grady stepped in, it was as if the Beavers built a wall between Grady and the receivers, because he couldn't complete a pass to save his life (I already touched on that one).

Thirdly, where the hell is this running game? Ok, Asiata was supposed to be a great back for Utah, but is there really that big of a drop off from him to Stowers, who was designated the starter before the game? If there is, then how are we even going to get enough wins to finish above .500? And that brings me to my final point...

We're screwed the next three weeks if Johnson sits out. Face it, this team probably doesn't even have the offensive power to beat Air Force, let alone UCLA. And we better hope we get some breaks against UNLV, or Utah could realistically be looking at an 0-4 start before finally getting a victory against Utah State. Hope and pray that Johnson returns quickly, or this season is done.

I'm done ranting, hopefully this team can show up better against Air Force, but I won't hold my breath.

AHHH
It was a joke of a game.  I could tell as soon as BJ went out the team all dropped their heads, and did not step it up.  OSU's DB's are garbage and Grady well you saw.  The one thing that may help the Utes will BJ is out is to run some plays like they did with Casteel, but OSU stopped those quick throws and end arounds.   Once I saw the first 2 drives with Grady I knew it was over and so did the team

Poor Utes
Can't help but feel sorry for the squad.  As much as I love to see them loose, I hope the injuries don't push old Kyle out sooner than later! We love having him around!!

That Was Fast
Okay, first of all, cougar1011, it's "lose" not "loose." Apparently passing 3rd grade spelling isn't a requirement to gain admittance to the Y, but please, keep shoveling all that crap our way about how you're a superior institution of higher learning.

As woeful as Utah's offense was last night, what really depressed me was the non-existent U defense. Maybe OSU's players really are that much better; they did win 10 games last year which included a victory over my other alma mater USC. Could that explain why the U was getting blown off the line almost every single play and the Beaver receivers were always so open?

It's not even freaking September and it already feels like the season is over.

Degree
Sorry for the misspelled word.  Won't happen again.  Times must be tough if you have to post that you graduated with honors in 1999, like it gives you creditability or something.  You guys are in for a long year.  Better go back to school...

Oh Cougar Fan....
Oh Cougar fan,

You must be loving life right now.  The Utes are down and elder Mendenhall has led the Cougars to a huge victory over a bottom of the Pac-1o team.  Congrats!  Nonetheless, it wasn't too long ago that everyone was hailing Mr. Crowton as the next legend coach after his first season at the helm.  Give it time my friend.  We'll see if elder Mendenhall and his stripling warriors can keep it up long term.  Don't get too excited.  That's the same mistake you made with Crowton.

Jazzy Ute Hiccups
I feel that there are a few hiccups in the most recent article by the phenom utah blogger. Yes its was a terrible loss, but i do believe that there is more hope then you have wrote.

The best running back is darrell mack, and he is now coming back. He showed the most in camp, but with Asiata's injury throughout camp they guessed on the decision. Poston, i don't care where he transfered from and i think many people are sick of the hype that has never came to prudition. Poston, if you want to play at USC< UTAH, NFL, or for any football team you need to learn how to block. Mack will go head up with anyone, including Tommy Blake from TCU.

As for Quarterback, Tommy Grady has a great arm, and actually probably has the strongest arm in the MWC. Grady can throw the long ball much better then "BJ". BJ is much smarter of a football player, but Tommy has a better arm. He can finally find, richards, casteel, and Hernandez for those open deep routes that are always open.

The one issue is the offensive line, Boone was a huge loss, which was very easily viewed against a HUGE OSU line.

Keep your hopes up, with a still great team, we should still make a bowl game!

Hot Damn
You guys have no faith. Remember last time we had a QB go down? Ratliff stepped in and won us 2 games. Grady is probably about as good as Ratliff. Grady will be ok for a few weeks. We don't have to win non-conference games to win the MWC. Rat couldn't handle a full load and I don't think Grady can either, but a few games they could handle.
