'Big Ten, Pac-12 suspend plans for scheduling collaboration' - well, there's a disappointing email subject line.

From George Schroeder Remember the plan for Big Ten and Pac-12 to play each other in the regular season every year? It's off now. The Pac-12 began setting the stage for this a few weeks ago as the playoff was taking shape. With nine conference games, the Pac-12 has every team in the league committed to more tough games than any conference that doesn't have nine-game schedules. Adding this arrangement would basically mean a 10-game conference schedule (only one of them doesn't matter towards the league title). The Pac-12 only wanted to go forward with this if there was going to be a firm strength of schedule component to the playoff selection process. With this agreement being put on ice, it likely means that no such restriction will be put on the committee. They will consider strength of schedule, of course, but it appears that no independent SOS measure will compel them to do anything. Thus, the Pac-12 bailed. Here's your press release from both conferences. Each cites the Pac-12's nine-game schedule as the main issue.

If misery loves company, then Colorado loves Utah. The Pac-12 is treating its two new members and manufactured rivals like pimple-faced plebes in boot camp. We all knew the only mystery about Colorado's season was if it could avoid a year's lease in the conference basement. But at my side is my dogeared Sporting News College Football yearbook which forecast Utah winning the South Division. Instead, the Pac-12 is rubbing the Utes' faces right into the Wasatch Mountains.

I’ll answer what I can about this, because I know there is a lot of interest. But I don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves. Our preference is status quo, all conferences staying at 12. But…if we expanded further, we’d carefully look at equal access to all territories.

California (Pac-10), Georgia (SEC), and Notre Dame (Big East), all of whom participated in the Old Spice Classic last Thanksgiving are ticketed for the CBE Classic in Kansas City this year, alongside Missouri (Big 12).

Chris Dobbertean is thinking ahead to next basketball season, which will see Georgia taking on some tough competition in November (without Travis Leslie, whose confirmation of what we already knew I did not report, because it struck me as "Francisco Franco is still dead"-style information, but with Nemanja Djurisic).
