Canada moves up 4 in latest FIFA rankings

Picking up a win and a draw in the most recent round of World Cup Qualifying matches means that Canada has again received a boost to its ranking. The men's national team are now 83rd in the world but have slipped back to 9th in CONCACAF as El Salvador is one spot about them. For Canada the rank will be expected to improve once again next month with two more winnable matches. I am one who is often critical of the FIFA ranking system but it is always nice to see Canada moving the right direction.

Didn't see this yet. InterMat has their preseason rankings up. Hawks that are ranked include: 125-McDonough (1st) 133-Ramos (3rd) 141-Marion (3rd) 149-Carew (18th) 157- St. John (2nd) 174-Lofthouse (6th) 184-Gambrall (3rd) HWT- Rasing (8th) Team- 2nd

Missouri ended up in 41st place...Stanford won (again). Top Big 12 team was Texas A&M at 8th. The rest of the league: OU 10th, UT 12th, OSU 32, NU 33 (last time I post about them in the Big 12), BU 35, TTU 48, KSU 58, ISU 60, CU 66 (same comment as NU), and kU 72.

3. Florida State Seminoles
If FSU fans needed another indication that Jimbo Fisher has the Seminoles headed back toward the sport's upper crust, it was delivered on national signing day. FSU signed the country's No. 1 class and there's more help coming for an improved defense. Quarterback E.J. Manuel played well as an emergency starter in 2010, and nine starters are coming back on both offense and defense. FSU has a favorable schedule -- it doesn't play Georgia Tech, North Carolina or Virginia Tech during the regular season -- and if it can defeat Oklahoma at home on Sept. 17 it might be a serious contender to win the BCS national championship.

Top prospect: QB Derrick Brown (Murrieta, Calif./Vista Murrieta)
The Utes are putting together one of their better classes under coach Kyle Whittingham, and selling future Pac-10 play to recruits appears to be paying dividends. Utah already has 17 commits in its well-balanced class. Brown is a steal and should be a highly productive quarterback thanks to his great dual-threat skill set and athleticism out of the spread. Other schools may have passed over offensive tackle Daniel Kristensen (Salt Lake City/Cottonwood) because of his lighter frame, but we see a lineman with very good feet, agility and a high ceiling for physical development. Future depth has been added at receiver with several system-fitting prospects, including Charles Henderson (New Orleans/McDonogh).
