Utah wide receiver Brian Hernandez has been cleared to play an additional year, the NCAA told University of Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham yesterday. Hernandez, originally a transfer from Georgia Tech, was Utah's third leading receiver last season and arguably their best heading into the 2006 campaign.
Hernandez is best known for his catch in last year's thrilling OT victory over the Brigham Young Cougars. Facing a 3rd and 23, on a drive seemingly stalled by 5 penalties, Utah quarterback Brett Ratliff found a streaking Hernandez down the sideline for a touch down that gave Utah a much needed 14 point lead. While the Cougars eventually tied it up, the touch down killed any momentum BYU had created off of 14 unanswered points.
Sadly, for BYU fans anyway, they'll have to face Hernandez for two more years
Utah's offense should be damn good for years to come, especially with the news Hernandez will be playing an extra year.
