Mountain West Conference power rankings

A slight shift in this week's rankings. The Mountain West title hunt is closer than it's ever been.

Team of the week: New Mexico. Great victory over Air Force last Thursday. An important step in what could be the Lobos first conference championship since 1964.

Dud of the week: CSU. It looked like the Rams might be turning it around after manhandling UNLV. It wasn't to be, however, as Colorado State was rolled by the Utes last week. Is there anyone who really believes this is not Sonny's last year in Fort Collins?

Week Nine Rankings
Rank Team Comments
1 New Mexico's march toward the school's first conference championship in 43 years was strengthened with a great win over Air Force. It might, though, take a big hit Saturday with a tough game against TCU in Fort Worth.
2 BYU has played one D1-A team in four weeks, UNLV. Talk about an easy schedule that gets even easier with woeful Colorado State coming to town.
3 No let down from the Utes and they finally climb to the third spot in the weekly power rankings. With a bye week already underway, they now get to prepare for a final stretch that could catapult them to the top.
4 Tough loss by the Falcons, but they're still having a better than expected season. With Army next, the Falcons should easily win their 7th game of the season.
5 The Cowboys struggled against UNLV, but ultimately got the win. If Wyoming is going to have any hope of playing in a bowl game this year, they will need to beat a struggling San Diego State team.
6 A bye week and now a crucial game against New Mexico. The Frogs might be having a down season, but they're still in bowl contention. A victory over New Mexico will go along way toward getting them there.
7 Only here because their game was postponed against BYU and both CSU and UNLV lost.
8 1-7, enough said.
9 UNLV came close to beating Wyoming, but close doesn't mean much here. Mike Sanford, get that resume ready!
