Boylen Ball: Utes cruise to opening season win

Boylen is 1-0 at the University of Utah. The Utes shredded USC Upstate Friday night in Salt Lake City, defeating the Spartans 86-52. It marked his first victory -- of many, we hope -- at Utah and showed the defensive intensity he wanted to bring to Utah since taking the job in March.

I'll recap the game later on (probably Sunday, since football is tomorrow). But let me just say that it's great to have defense on The Hill again. The Utes held South Carolina Upstate to only 28% shooting and 26% from outside. It was just the type of defensive effort fans were hoping for and even though the opponent is weak, that should not undercut the fact Utah often allowed teams -- even in victory -- to score at will on them. No such luck for the Spartans tonight and hopefully this success carries over.

Like I said, I'll have more on the victory later. But right now, good to see the Utes roll a team.
