Mountain West Conference power rankings

The gap between Utah and BYU has narrowed greatly and just in time for the showdown between the two on November 24th.

Team of the week: Utah. Utah's 50-0 domination of Wyoming Saturday is the best single game performance Utah's put forth since Urban Meyer roamed the sidelines. They slaughtered the Cowboys and showed no mercy.

Team of the weak: Wyoming. Ouch. Not only were they shutout by Utah, they gave up 50 points. So much for that stellar defense. To top it off, Joe Glenn gave Whittingham the ol' one finger salute, setting off a national firestorm.

Week Eleven Rankings
Rank Team Comments
1 BYU struggled against a mistake-prone TCU squad Thursday and will have to play better if they're going to roll Wyoming in Laramie.
2 The Utes are the hottest team in America right now and I honestly believe that. They rolled Wyoming, have not given up a touchdown in 10 quarters and are on a 6-game winning streak. Yet as good as the Utes are playing right now, a loss Saturday will pretty much undo everything good created by this streak. Hopefully that does not happen.
3 Air Force goes on the road and rolls a hapless Notre Dame team. Great performance by the Falcons, who end their regular season this Saturday against San Diego State. A win there and Air Force will have its first 9-win season in seven years
4 The Lobos bounced back from their embarrassing loss against TCU with a rather unimpressive victory over CSU. Frankly, New Mexico is lucky they won, because the Rams are horrible and there is no excuse for Colorado State even being in the game, especially in Albuquerque. Now comes their big game against the Utes. A win there and this will probably go down as the best season in Rocky Long's career. A loss, however, will doom them to another mediocre campaign and most likely no bowl game. A lot riding on that game for both teams, thankfully it's in Salt Lake.
5 What was that, TCU? The Frogs gave BYU that game Thursday night and should be kicking themselves for how many times they left points on the field. Now I'll admit, I'm bitter, because TCU had a chance to give Utah an opportunity to play for the conference title, but now that seems unlikely thanks to their poor play. If the Frogs are going to return to its status as a Mountain West player, they will need to pick up another offensive coordinator, because this Schultz guy is horrible. Luckily for TCU, they should easily hit 6-wins Saturday against UNLV.
6 Is this the reemergence of Aztec football? Eh, call me when they actually beat someone of importance, like BYU, to end the season (please!).
7 You're really not this good, it's just UNLV and CSU suck worse than you do. Now you can rise higher if you beat BYU Saturday, deal?
8 How the hell did Utah lose to these guys? With TCU up next, it looks like the Rebels are on their way to at least a 9-loss season.
9 Almost defeated the Lobos, but almost doesn't count -- that seems to have been the mantra for this CSU team the entire season. Up next is Georgia Southern, an opponent that can't be taken too lightly. Of course, when you're 1-9, no opponent can be taken too lightly.
