A top choice?
Michigan State assistant Jim Boylen appears to be a top candidate for the Utah job. While he has zero head coaching experience, his resume is pretty impressive.
You can see his bio here
Boylen spent 13 years in the NBA, most of those years with the Houston Rockets during their greatest run in team history. There he won two NBA Championships and was even rumored to replace Rudy Tomjanovich, but obviously that did not happen.
Boylen returned to the college ranks two years ago, after his father fell ill. He joined Tom Izzo's staff and became the team's top assistant. It is rumored that Izzo contacted Chris Hill about Boylen and that he's now toward the top of Hill's list.
While I wish he had head coaching experience, you can't really deny that his resume makes him overqualified for a head coaching gig. The fact he coached so long in the NBA will definitely have some benefits when it comes to recruiting and he does come from a winning program. However it's tough to overlook his lack of experience as the head man. What are your thoughts on this? Good hire, poor hire?
No matter what, Boylen can't be talked to until the Spartans lose in the NCAA Tournament and they're around at least another few days, as they beat Marquette yesterday.
