Gonzaga, Oregon, Cal added to Utah basketball schedule

Jim Boylen said he wanted Utah to play tough teams and it appears he's living up to that promise. The Deseret News reports that Gonzaga, Oregon and Cal have been added to this year's schedule. And while all three are road games, they will have a return trip to Salt Lake at the Huntsman Center next season.

Former Utah coach Ray Giacoletti is buddies with Gonzaga coach Mark Few and refused to play the Bulldogs while coach at Utah. Oddly enough, after being fired by the Utes, he took over an assistant position with Gonzaga and so he will be on the opposing sidelines for a game next year.

The same article also reports that Fresno State, Santa Clara and Cal Irvine will make up part of the home schedule. The Utes will also play in the preseason NIT. Fresno State is coached by former BYU men's basketball head coach Steve Cleveland. Cleveland left BYU to coach Fresno two years ago.
