Who knew FX, the movie-leg of the FOX enterprise, would nudge its way into the sports world?
Well Variety is reporting just that. This fall, the Pac-12, Big 12 and C-USA will air games on the network - opening up the potential of more nationally televised games for all three conferences.
Under the moniker ''Fox Sports on FX,'' a minimum of 13 games will come from the newly named Pac-12, plus the Big 12 and Conference USA. Fox Sports, which will produce the contests, already has deals with those conferences and will be sharing the games with its corporate sibling.
I think this is a good idea. FX might not be known for its sports, but it's a channel most everyone with cable gets and, after spending the last five seasons in obscurity due to the Mountain West's television deal, this is a huge move in the right direction for Utah.
Is it ESPN or ABC? Of course not. But FX is easier to find than most FSN regional channels and best of all, the games will air throughout the day on Saturdays.
Compare that to the current Mountain West television deal or even BYU's deal with ESPN (they'll have three Friday night games this upcoming season) and I think we're in a good spot.
Of course, the exacts of this schedule has yet to be released, so we don't really know if Utah will even play on FX this season - but it seems likely, since none of their games were originally picked up by ESPN/ABC this season. Though expect that list to change with further updates (as they only show 13 Saturday games at the moment).
