Reggie Topps has been suspended

I guess it was only a matter of time before Utah's quiet and productive spring saw its first disappointing development.

Senior defensive back Reggie Topps has been indefinitely suspended for violating team rules, Kyle Whittingham announced after Tuesday's practice.

Topps could return to the team and the details of why he was suspended weren't released, but it is some bad news during a period where Utah has seen relative calm this spring.

Hopefully he gets everything worked out and can make it back because we need him.

On a sorta related note, though involving basketball, Utah has lost another player, as George Matthews was released from his scholarship yesterday. Matthews struggled this past season, and the year ended with an injury, but he was only a freshman, so, there was certainly room for potential.

Even so, as they bid farewell to those players that have departed the team, the Runnin' Utes announced the signing of point guard Brandon Taylor. Taylor isn't quite near blue chip level, and only held offers from a cluster of mid-major programs, but apparently the coaches are high on him.

Utah is also looking at Givon Crump, who originally signed with Baylor, but apparently Washington has come on strong as well. So, the Utes certainly have competition - but if they can get him, it would be a massive get for the program.
