Runnin' Utes set for first, and only, exhibition

Utah will take on Saint Martin in their first exhibition of the season.

Ezra Shaw

The Runnin' Utes return to action tonight for the first time since their brief run through the Pac-12 Tournament earlier in the year. The team, much different and potentially much improved, will take on an unknown, presumably outmatched, opponent - the Saint Martin Saints.

A bit redundant, eh?

Still, it's the first game of the season (at least first live game) and for all you diehards, it offers up an opportunity to put the struggles of Utah football behind you for a few hours (this is feeling eerily similar to last year).

For the Runnin' Utes, as is the case with every exhibition game, this is mostly just a live scrimmage and opportunity to tinker with certain players without it impacting their overall record  - as this game won't mean anything in the standings.

Utah's season officially begins next week with a preseason game against Evergreen State, which I can only assume is a school right next to the Simpsons home.

How will this year's team look? Hard to say. The talent shifts, but the schedule is once again painfully weak - as BYU, Boise State and Fresno State are the only three programs who come from a known basketball conference. You would think there's at least ten preseason wins there - if not more.

So, the 2013-'14 season is upon us. How well do you think the Runnin' Utes will fare? Is a postseason bid out of the question or the goal?
