While the Utah men's basketball team has officially ended their season - the Lady Utes continue theirs. Thursday night, on the road, Utah beat Pacific in overtime to advance to the WNIT Elite Eight. They'll take on St. Mary's Saturday for a trip to the WNIT Final Four. The Gaels beat BYU down in Provo the other night.
Postseason success is not all that uncommon for Utah women's basketball. Last year, the Lady Utes advanced to the second-round of the WNIT after beating Utah State (they would lose to conference mate Washington - who made it to the Elite Eight that year) and, as we're all aware, built up a nice postseason reputation under former head coach Elaine Elliott. Elliott's most successful season came in 2006 when she guided Utah to within an overtime of a Final Four appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
So, go Utes! We might not be able to cheer on the Runnin' Utes in the NCAA Tournament, or any postseason, but hopefully these Utes can bring home some hardware!
