Utah prepared for their showdown with USC in practice yesterday. The rules for what we can and cannot report are the same as last week (no formations, no reporting on who took first or second team reps). We cannot comment on injuries other than what head coach Kyle Whittingham tells us. He did mention linebacker Jacoby Hale looks better, but Tevin Carter's status is still unknown. All of this information and more can be heard in our interview with Whittingham. Also check out interviews with quarterback Travis Wilson, running back Devontae Booker, and offensive coordinator Dave Christensen. All interviews are at the bottom of the article.
Quarterbacks:
Wilson and Kendal Thompson took all of the quarterback reps in practice today. Both quarterbacks threw the ball well, but I would give the edge to Wilson since he was a little sharper throwing the ball. Neither quarterback had any throws that were really off target. Overall, it was a good practice from both signal callers.
Running backs:
There is not much to report on for running backs. Booker continues to impress. Bubba Poole and Troy McCormick also took some reps and looked solid.
Wide Receivers/Tight Ends:
The tight ends were not targeted much during practice. The wide receivers really stepped up and had a nice practice today. I do not remember any dropped passes. Dres Anderson had multiple nice catches (including one where a defender had good coverage). Kenneth Scott recorded a nice catch. Kaelin Clay caught several passes during practice. Kenric Young had a catch as well. Practice is obviously very different from a game, but I thought it was a great practice from the wide receivers.
