Tom Hackett Named Ray Guy Award Semifinalist

Utah's punter is closer to winning the award for the nation's best punter.

Russ Isabella-USA TODAY Sports

Utah's Aussie punter, Tom Hackett, has been named a semifinalist for the Ray Guy Award, the award for the nation's best punter. Hackett leads the nation in punts inside the 10-yard line and ranks second nationally in punt average (47.2), and leads the Pac-12 in punt average (47.2), punts inside the 20 (23), punts of 50+ yards (19) and total punt yards (2,594).

Hackett has been racking up some awards already this season, as he was named the Ray Guy Punter of the Week twice already this year, and was All Pac-12 last season. At this point, I think Hackett should be the front runner for the award, but we'll have to wait until December 11th to hear who the winner is.

Hackett joins Andy Phillips (Groza) and Nate Orchard (Lombardi and Bednarik) as college football award semifinalists.

And as Hackett always says on Twitter, #Puntersarepeopletoo, and as it turns out, punters can be effective weapons as well.
