The Utes continue their gauntlet of big name opponents today, by traveling to Palo Alto to take on the Stanford Cardinal. The Utes have dropped two straight, and now sit at 6-3 on the season, and 3-3 in the Pac-12. This past weekend, the Utes dropped a tough one to Oregon, in what was a bit of a weird game. Utah held strong for just over 3 1/2 quarters before the Ducks were able to put the game away.
Last season against Stanford, the Utes pulled off the major upset over the #5 Cardinal in Rice-Eccles Stadium. Of course, after that game the Utes went into a tailspin and lost five straight games. This year, it seems that Utah should have the upper hand, with Stanford really struggling offensively, maybe even more so than the Utes. The key for the Utes is to make sure Devontae Booker gets his touches, while Travis Wilson has time in the pocket to find Kaelin Clay and Kenneth Scott down field.
The Cardinal are coming off of a bye week, after losing to Oregon up in Eugene. Stanford isn't having the typical success they are used to, with a 5-4 record and losses to Oregon, ASU, Notre Dame and USC. The Stanford D is the same tough unit they've had for years, but offensively, after Ty Montgomery, there isn't a lot there.
Finally, after five straight 8pm or later kickoffs, the Utes have an afternoon kickoff, and won't be playing until the wee hours of the morning.
