Around the Hill Update

This week, the University of Utah's track and field and baseball teams will be in action. The track team competes in meets at Iowa and BYU. The Utes baseball team hosts MWC foe Nevada to Smith Ballpark starting Friday at 6 pm MT.

Track and Field


Currently, the University of Utah track and field team has five athletes ranked in the Top-50 of the NCAA. In the 800 meter, senior Rosalie Waller is ranked 18th, followed by junior Alexandria Eisenbeiss in 20th. Redshirt junior Rebekah Winterton and junior Susannah Hurst are both ranked in the 5k and 10k, Winterton is 33rd and 13th respectively for the events while Hurts is ranked 31st and 26th. For the field events, red shirt junior Aoife Hickey is the lone Utes athlete to be ranked, currently 26th in the hammer throw.

This weekend, the Utes compete at both the Drake Relays in Iowa and the Robison Invitational at BYU. The Drake Relays kicked off Wednesday, April 23, and continues through Saturday April 26, with the invitational at BYU occurring over the same time period.

On the first day of competition at Iowa, junior Suzie Vozarova set a personal record in the 200m of the heptathlon with a 25.43. She finished 6th overall in the event.

Baseball

Utah baseball hosts Nevada this weekend at Smith Ballpark (formerly Spring Mobile Ballpark) for a four-game non-conference series that begins Friday, April 25 at 6 pm MT. The series continues with a double header at 1 pm on Saturday, followed by a Sunday game that starts at 12 pm.

Head coach Bill Kinneberg emphasized the importance of this weekend. "We need to play well in these four non-conference games this weekend and get back on track," said Kinneberg. "I thought we swung the bats better against Utah Valley but we still have to play better."

Throughout the weekend, Utah will have baseball cards available for the first 500 fans in attendance at each game. Friday’s game will feature Dallas Carroll and Kyle Hoffman baseball cards, followed by Cory Hunt and Zachary Jones cards Saturday, while Sunday’s game will have Luke West cards.

Currently, Utah is 12-24 overall and 3-15 in the Pac-12.

With a career record of 499-505, Kinneberg hopes to earn is 500th win in 19 seasons this weekend.
