Utah Lady Utes Drop Tough Game against UCLA

The Lady Utes remain winless in Pac-12 play.

It's been a tough season so far for the Lady Utes and head coach Anthony Levrets. Utah started the season 1-5 with their only win being an overtime win over San Jose State. Utah got on a bit of a roll thanks to a lot of games at the Huntsman Center, with a 5-1 swing, with the lone loss to BYU. Now that conference play has started, Utah finds themselves on a three game skid, with the last two losses being competitive, especially against #15 Stanford, where they lost by 11.

Last night, Utah dropped a tough one against UCLA at the Huntsman Center, 49-46. UCLA (6-9, 2-2 Pac-12) has one of the most talented teams in the conference, but they are very young and inexperienced. The game was a nip and tuck battle until the Bruins used a 9-2 run late in the 2nd half to put a bit of breathing room between them and the Utes, at 42-35. A battle of free throws at the end kept the game within reach for the Utes, but they couldn't convert on a final attempt to tie the game and send it to overtime.

The Utes were led by senior forward Taryn Wicijowski, who scored a team-high 14 points, including a 6-for-6 night at the free throw line, to reach double-figures in points for the 10th time this season. She also pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.

The Utes next take on USC at the Huntsman Center, Sunday at noon.
