Utah Non-Revenue Sports Update

Only a few of Utah's non-revenue sports teams were in action last week. Soccer dropped a pair of matches to ranked teams but as a chance to bounce back against No. 23 Cal. Men's tennis was successful at the Idaho State Invitational. Utah women's basketball will host Night with the Runnin' Utes. Softball will host a camp in December.

Utah women's soccer (5-6-3, 2-3-0 Pac-12) is looking to rebound this weekend at No. 23 Cal. After pitching two shutouts the previous weekend in Oregon, Utah fell 1-0 to No. 21 Washington State and 2-0 to No. 19 Washington this past weekend at home, giving the Utes a disappointing 1-5-1 record at Ute Field.

It was a successful trip to the Idaho State Invitational for the Utah men's tennis team, winning both the singles and doubles titles. Sophomores Johan Jonhagen and Santiago Sierra won doubles title beating Weber State's Barlow/Chen, 6-4. They then squared off against each other for the singles title, with Sierra winning, 7-5, 7-6(5). Utah will next travel to Albuquerque, New Mexico where they will compete in the ITA Regional Championships October 19-25, 2015. Women's tennis is in the middle of the ITA Mountain Region Women's Tennis Championshipsin Las Vegas, Nev., which ends Oct. 18.

Utah women's cross country team returns to competition after a week off on Saturday to compete at the NCAA Pre-National Invitational meet in Louisville, Ky. The Utes are sending 12 athletes to compete against some of the top teams in the nation. The race is hosted by the University of Louisville and will take place at the E.P. Tom Sawyer Park. The meet is a preview of the upcoming NCAA Cross Country National Championship held in Louisville on Nov. 2. The women's seeded 6-km race is slated to begin at 10:15 a.m. EDT, followed by the open race at 11:30 a.m. The field at the NCAA Pre-National Invitational will be strong with over 15 teams, including eight of the top-30 teams.

Utah Women's Basketball team will meet and greet season ticket holders and lead on-court promotions during Night with the Runnin' Utes on Wednesday, Oct. 21 beginning at 5 p.m. MT. Admission to the event is free. It will include a tour of the brand new Jon M. & Karen Huntsman Basketball Facility, on-court activities with the team, and will sign autographs.

"We're looking forward to working with the men's team to host a great night for our season ticket holders and fans," Utah Head Coach Lynne Roberts said. "We enjoy every chance we have to reach out and Night with the Runnin' Utes will be no different. This will be a fun event and an exciting way to start the season."
