Why I don't want to see Utah take on BYU in Vegas

13

Brad Rock of the Deseret News basically summed up my feelings perfectly in his article about the possibility of Utah taking on BYU in the Las Vegas Bowl. A lot of BYU fans want to play Utah, and it's exactly the opposite for Utah fans. For me, as a long time Ute, it's not because I'm scared to play them, because we all know that's silly, Utah's dominated BYU on the field winning 9 of the last 12 match ups. It's because the game isn't fun anymore, and if Utah has to put up with that for a couple weeks of bowl prep, plus going into next season for a week two matchup, it will be unbearable. It's no longer about the game and the players, it's about the antics of the fans and the circus that goes along with it. At one point this game was a lot of fun, especially with conference championships on the line, but now not so much. It started when the two programs went their separate ways, one to the Pac-12, one to independence. At that point, it was just hatred in the game, basically just to hate each other. Plus, there was a level of jealously on one side of the rivalry, and a level of needing to justify themselves on the other. To get a better feel for exactly why I don't want to see this game in the Vegas Bowl, read Brad Rock's article (attached), because he nails it - two rivalry weeks in three games is too much.
