The Pac-12 champion Red Rocks have been steamrolling the competition this season, but the news just keeps getting better. Utah just caught a break in defending their conference crown.
The 2015 Pac-12 Women's Gymnastics Championship scheduled for Saturday, Mar. 21 has been relocated to the University of Utah, the conference office announced today. The event was previously scheduled to take place at Arizona State, but due to possible scheduling conflicts with the first and second rounds of the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament, the membership voted that the championship be moved to Salt Lake City.
Two sessions will be held in the Jon M. Huntsman Center on Mar. 21, with seeds 5-8 competing at 2 p.m. MT, and seeds 1-4 starting at 7 p.m. MT. Season ticket holders and Crimson Club members may begin reserving tickets online on Monday, Feb. 16 or through their account representative on Tuesday, Feb. 17. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Wednesday, Feb. 25.
Fans that previously purchased tickets through Arizona State, or made hotel and travel arrangements, are encouraged to email SparkyCares@asu.edu for assistance.
The venue change was made because, for the first time, the top 16 seeds in the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament will host first- and second-round games. The No. 12 Sun Devil women's basketball team could be in position to host, and per NCAA rules, must do so on campus. The dates for these first and second rounds of the tournament conflict with the Pac-12 Gymnastics Championship, previously scheduled to take place at Wells Fargo Arena in Tempe, Ariz.
Utah, the defending Pac-12 champion, hosted the inaugural Pac-12 Gymnastics Championship in 2012. The meet drew a Pac-12 record crowd of 19,734 over two sessions.
