Reports are floating out there, namely from the Salt Lake Tribune and ESPN 700, that Utah has filled the final vacancy on the coaching staff with the hiring of Lewis Powell. Powell, an alum of Utah, has been the defensive line coach for Hawaii since 2012. He was on Utah's staff as either a graduate assistant or an administrative assistant from 2009-2011. In his playing days
Powell joins Justin Ena and John Pease as the newest additions to the Utah coaching staff. Ena was hired a week ago to take over the linebackers, while Pease was hired as defensive coordinator and d-line coach. The addition of both Powell and Ena also fills the Polynesian gap on the coaching staff that was created when Kalani Sitake and Ilaisa Tuiaki left for Oregon State - and Powell and Ena will likely recruit against those two going forward.
With this most recent hire, and we're still awaiting the final announcement from Kyle Whittingham on it, the staff will look like this:
Offense:
Co-Coordinator / Passing Game Coordinator / QB Coach (play caller) - Aaron Roderick
Co-Coordinator / Running Game Coordinator / O-line Coach - Jim Harding
Running Backs Coach / Assistant Head Coach - Dennis Erickson
Tight Ends Coach - Lewis Powell
Wide Receivers - Taylor Stubblefield
Defense:
Coordinator/Defensive line coach - John Pease
Line Backers Coach - Justin Ena
Safeties Coach / Special Teams Coordinator - Morgan Scalley
Corner Backs Coach - Sharrieff Shah
