Utah Baseball Falls to Sac State in Game Three

university of utah athletics

The Utes played their third game in as many days, and fell short again to the Hornets of Sacramento State. Despite the loss, freshman pitcher Jayson Rose had a pretty solid debut for Utah. After giving up a hit to his first hitter he faced, Rose shut down the next 10 up to bat. He accumulated six strikeouts and four walks on the day.

Utah had a hard time finding home plate, leaving several on base throughout much of the game. Wyler Smith was thrown out trying to make it to home plate from second, on a base hit by AJ Young.

Sacramento State got on the board in the seventh inning with runs by Brett Hundley, Scotty Burcham, and Bronson Grubbs with Dalton Carroll on the mound in relief of Rose.  Utah finally got on the board in the ninth as Dallas Carroll made it home, but that is where the scoring ended at 3-1.

The same two teams square off in the fourth and final match up of the series on President's Day Monday February 16 at 12 Noon MST.
