university of utah athletics

Utah dropped their third straight game Monday to Sacramento St in the bottom of the ninth 8-7, and they head home at 1-3.

Utah had a much better effort behind the plate. Wade Gulden made it home three times, Kody Davis twice, and Wyler Smith, and AJ Young had a run a piece. Smith was 2 for 3, and Cody Scaggari's one hit resulted in two Runs.

Utah had the lead a few times, but struggled with errors that hurt them defensively. Scaggari's hit in the top of the seventh inning put the Utes up 6-4, but the bottom of the seventh, the Utes gave up three runs putting the Hornets back on top. Utah would even up the score in the ninth inning, as Smith's double eventually had him on third with no outs. A bunt by Connor Casperson sent Smith home for the game tying run. The Hornets ended Utah's scoring by closing the their at bat with a double play.

No score in the top of the 10th, and the Hornets had bases loaded in the bottom, when the game winning run a base hit to center sent the winning run home for the 8-7 victory for Sacramento State.

The Utes head to Tucson for the Pac12/BigXII challenge starting February 19th. They will see action vs Kansas State, Kansas, Oklahoma State, and Oklahoma.
