After losing a game that many thought they shouldn't in Pauley Pavilion but bouncing back to route USC, the Runnin' Utes dropped to No. 13 in the latest AP Poll. With the win at the Galen Center against USC, Utah improved to 17-4 overall, 7-2 in conference play and evened head coach Larry Krystkowiak's record as the Runnin' Utes coach at 59-59.
Gonzaga, a team with only one loss, an overtime road game in the McKale Center, has climbed to No. 2 in the land. The Bulldogs are good, but probably a bit overrated again this year due to the dearth of quality competition on their schedule. However, the Zags did beat UCLA in Pauley earlier this season.
Next up for the Utes is a tilt on Saturday at 8 p.m. MT against the Colorado Buffaloes in Boulder. The Coors Center is a difficult place to play, although Washington did manage to beat CU, which is encouraging. After that, Utah hosts Stanford and Cal in the Jon M. Huntsman Center for the teams' only meeting during the regular season. A four-game winning streak could provide some much needed momentum heading into the Pacific Northwest to face the Oregon schools. (Oregon State took out Arizona earlier this conference season in Corvallis.)
