The school year is winding down, basketball has ended, football is in spring practices and it's basically just baseball and softball at this point. The Around the Hill articles, which should come weekly now, will include the non-revenue sports, like baseball, softball and Olympic sports.
Baseball:
Baseball, like the other non-revenue sports, has struggled since joining the Pac-12, but they are starting to show signs of improvement this year. The Pingin' Utes are 10-18 overall, with a 4-7 conference record, which already matches their conference win total in 2013-2014. Utah has only been swept in one Pac-12 series this season, UCLA, and won a big series against Arizona down in Tucson.
Softball
The softball team has been in the same boat as the baseball team since joining the Pac-12. However, the softball team has traditionally done well out of conference, but struggles once conference play starts. On the season, the team is 26-13 overall, while holding a 4-7 conference record. Utah struggled out of the gates in conference play, being swept in the first two series against UCLA and Oregon, but have won four of their last five in conference play. The Utes came back from a six run deficit against Cal on Friday, to win 12-10. The Utes beat the No. 17/16 Bears after getting sparked by back-to-back home runs from Kate Dickman and Marissa Mendenhall to start the comeback. The victory secures Utah of winning the series, which gives the Utes' back-to-back Pac-12 series wins for the first time since joining the conference.
Track and Field
The Utes are scheduled to compete at the Stanford Invitational and San Francisco Distance Carnival on Friday and Saturday. The Utah track and field team is coming off of a nice meet at OSU, with Sarah Feeny and Rebekah Winterton
