Former Utah defensive end Nate Orchard becomes the second former Ute drafted in the 2015 NFL Draft 2nd round when he was selected with the 51st pick by the Cleveland Browns. The Ted Hendricks Award winner is the third player selected by the Cleveland Browns, who had two first round picks. They have taken Washington defensive tackle Danny Shelton at 12 overall and Florida State center Cameron Erving. Orchard and Shelton combined for 27.5 sacks last season in college. Erving, Orchard, and Shelton were all named All-Americans in their college careers.
Orchard finished the 2014 college first in sacks per game (1.42) and second in total sacks (18.5). He recorded 3.5 sacks against a Stanford offensive line that featured 1st round draft pick left tackle Andrus Peat. He also recorded 4.0 sacks against the UCLA Bruins. The Browns hope that Orchard can improve on their pass rush, which finished with only 31.0 sacks (No. 26) last season.
