Utah football coach Kyle Whittingham issued another statement on former Utah cornerback Dominique Hatfield following his charges being dropped by the Salt Lake Police Department yesterday. Hatfield had been charged with armed robbery Hatfield was indefinitely suspended before being dismissed off the team. Below is Whittingham's statement:
"We are relieved that Dominique has been exonerated of the charges against him, but that does not necessarily impact the disciplinary actions we imposed due to a violation of team rules. There is, however, the possibility of future reinstatement to our team if he is able to meet certain expectations we have in place for our student-athletes."
What I am getting from this statement is that it was not just the charges against Hatfield that led to his dismissal from the team but that there were likely other off-the-field issues that were not made known to the general public that also factored into Whittingham's decision to dismiss Hatfield from the football team. It does sound like there is a chance for reinstatement to the team if Hatfield is willing to put in the work.
