Kyle Whittingham Issues Statement on Dominique Hatfield

Kyle Whittingham issued an official statement on Dominique Hatfield's arrest

Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

Utah football head coach Kyle Whittingham was on vacation when junior cornerback Dominique Hatfield was arrested on June 30 on charges of armed robbery. Hatfield was formally charged on July 2 with armed robbery and Theft of Lost or Misdelivered Property for attempting to sell the iPhones he found left at parties. Whittingham broke his silence and issued a statement this morning on Hatfield's status with the team. Below is Whittingham's full statement.

"Given the serious nature of the charge against Dominique Hatfield, he has been suspended indefinitely from our program while we await further clarity from the legal system."

Nothing is surprising in this statement. An indefinite suspense until this all plays out is the right call in my mind.  I was hoping he might say a little more on the topic, but he gave fans and media all of the pertinent details on the official stance of the football program on Hatfield. This situation is far from over and could change as more details emerge on what actually happened.
