Today, on Throwback Thursday, Utah football released a "Neo Classic" throwback uniform that will be worn for the Homecoming game on Oct. 10 against the Cal Golden Bears. The uniform borrows design elements from classic Utah football uniforms from the past. The uniform starts with interlocking UU logo on a white helmet, which is taken from the 1960s. The font for the numbers comes from uniforms from the 1970s. Lastly, the stripes on the jerseys date from uniforms worn from the 1970s-1990s. The interlocking UU logo will be featured on the throwback helmet, jerseys and pants.
Replicas of the "Neo Classic" jerseys, created in partnership with Under Armour, will be available at the University of Utah Bookstore and other retail outlets on Aug. 20.
I love these uniforms. I have been wanting Utah to do a throwback uniform for awhile now, and I think they nailed it. The fact that it pulls design elements from different eras is what really makes the uniform in my mind. The interlocking UU on the white helmet looks amazing, and overall, I love the white helmet-red jersey-white pants look that Utah first showed in the 2014 Las Vegas Bowl win. On the jerseys, replacing the mountain design with stripes and the interlocking UU gives a modern uniform template a classic look. The pants look great with the little pop of red from the stripes. The uniforms really are a "Neo Classic" because they have a classic feel that has been brought into the modern era.
The hashtag for the promotion is #UUThrowback.
