Utah Basketball: Puerto Rico Tip-off Bracket Announced

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

Football season is just four weeks away, but it's not too soon to talk a little hoops. It was announced on Thursday what the 2015 Puerto Rico Basketball Tip-off tournament bracket will look like. Coach Larry Krystkowiak will lead the Utes into Puerto Rico to take on Texas Tech Thursday, November 19th. This tournament is a part of a very good schedule by the Utes that includes a matchup with Duke, Wichita State, San Diego State and the team down south, BYU.

As football season comes to an end, Utah basketball will start to take center stage with these match ups, in pursuit of an improvement on the Sweet 16 run, and a run at a Pac-12 championship.

Here's the full press release from Utah athletics about the tournament bracket, and how the bracket itself will breakdown.

BRISTOL, Conn. - ESPN has released the bracket for the 2015 Puerto Rico Tip-Off, which will take place Nov. 19-22 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and the Utah men's basketball team will face off with Texas Tech in the event's opening round.

The Utes and Red Raiders will play in game four of Thursday's opening round, but a tip-off time and network for the contest is still to be determined as the Puerto Rico Tip-Off is being played at the same time as the Gildan Charleston Classic.

Miami and Mississippi State, who play in game three on Thursday, also appear on Utah's side of the bracket with the first-round winners facing off at 8 p.m. (5 p.m. MT) on Friday, Nov. 21 on ESPNU. Losing teams from Thursday's contests will play Friday at 6 p.m. (3 p.m. MT) with that contest also be televised on ESPNU.

On the opposite side of the bracket, Temple will face Minnesota and Butler will take on Missouri State during the event's first day.

The final four Puerto Rico Tip-Off contests, including the championship game will be played on Sunday, Nov. 22. A pair of wins for the Utes would send the team to the championship game, which will be played on Sunday at 8:30 p.m. (5:30 p.m. MT) on ESPN2.

The three-day, 12-game bracketed event will be played at Coliseo Roberto Clemente for a third straight season with ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPN3 presenting the games.

The all-time series between the Utes and Red Raiders is tied 3-3 with Texas Tech having won the last contest, which was played back on Nov. 26, 2003 in New York, N.Y.

Utah is 0-1 all-time against both Miami and Mississippi State. Utah's only contest against the Hurricanes came back in 1966, while the contest against the Bulldogs occurred back in 1995.

Additional information, including travel packages and ticket information, can be found on the Puerto Rico Tip-Off website.
