Utah Moves Up to No. 21 in Both Polls

After a wild weekend of college football, Utah moves up to No. 21 in both the AP and Coaches Poll

Russ Isabella-USA TODAY Sports

Week two of college football was crazy. Auburn needed overtime to knock off FCS Jacksonville State. Arkansas lost to unranked Toledo at home. Oregon (at Michigan State), Tennessee (against Oklahoma), and Mississippi State (against LSU) all lost to ranked teams. BYU won another game with a Hail Mary pass, knocking off ranked Boise State. There were several injuries to quarterbacks with Notre Dame quarterback Malik Zaire lost for the year, and Utah quarterback suffering a shoulder injury against Utah State. Amid all the craziness, Utah managed to pull out a 24-14 win over Utah State, and as a result, the Utes moved up to No. 21 in both the AP Poll and the Amway Coaches Poll. The Utes were No. 24 in the AP Poll last week and No. 25 in the Coaches Poll.

The Pac-12 is led by USC, who beat Idaho 59-9. The Trojans are ranked No. 6 in the AP Poll and No. 7 in the Coaches Poll. The Trojans are joined in the AP top 10 by crosstown rival UCLA at No. 10. The Bruins are No. 12 in the Coaches Poll after beating UNLV on the road 37-3. After losing 31-28 at No. 4 Michigan State, Oregon tumbled to No. 12 in the AP Poll and No. 13 in the Coaches Poll. The Arizona Wildcats defeated Nevada in Reno 44-20 and are ranked No. 20 in the AP Poll and No. 19 in the Coaches Poll. The fifth and final ranked Pac-12 team is Utah, who is No. 21 in both polls.

Auburn fell the furthest of any team after their overtime win over Jacksonville State, falling to No. 17 in the AP Poll and No. 15 in the Coaches Poll, from No. 6 in both polls. BYU had the biggest move up after knocking off previously ranked Boise State, jumping up to No. 19 in the AP Poll and No. 22 in the Coaches Poll after being unranked the prior week. The Cougars have a big showdown this weekend at UCLA. After setting a record by having 10 teams ranked in the AP Poll last week, the SEC is down to seven ranked teams in each poll. College football heats up in week three with ranked match ups between No. 2 Alabama versus No. 15 Ole Miss, No. 8 Notre Dame versus No. 14 Georgia Tech, No. 10 UCLA versus No. 19 BYU, and No. 13 LSU versus No. 18 Auburn. Utah will travel to Fresno State (1-1).
