Utah football: Gionni Paul named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week

Russ Isabella-USA TODAY Sports

There's only been two weeks worth of games so far this season, but after each week a Ute has been named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week. Last week, after the Michigan win, it was Justin Thomas, who walked away with the honor. This week, it is senior captain linebacker Gionni Paul.

Paul was all over the field against Utah State on Friday. He registered seven tackles, one tackle for loss, a fumble recovery and one interception that basically put the game away for the Utes. Paul, in my opinion, is the heart and soul of the Utah defense, and brings a different swagger that Utah hasn't really seen in the past.

Paul is joined by Luke Folk of Washington State (offensive player of the week) and Bralon Addison of Oregon (special teams player of the week).
