Utah Football's Justin Thomas wins Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week for Week 1

Jeff Swinger-USA TODAY Sports

It's been a good couple of days for the Utah football program. After beating the Wolverines of Michigan at Rice-Eccles Stadium Thursday night to kick off the 2015 season, more good news came down on Monday. First, Domo Hatfield has been reinstated to the program, after a turbulent couple of months. That is great news for all Utah fans, and especially Domo. Also being announced today, was the Pac-12 players of the week awards. Utah's own nickelback, Justin Thomas picked up the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week honors for week one. Thomas had 4 total tackles on the night, but put the nail in Michigan's coffin with a 55-yard interception return for a touchdown that put the game on ice for the Utes.

Thomas isn't the biggest guy on the field, but has basically been a starter at the nickel position since he stepped onto campus. Now with the reinstatement of Hatfield, along with Thomas, Corey Butler-Byrd, Brian Allen, Tevin Carter, Marcus Williams and Andre Godfrey, this secondary is really starting to look formidable.
