SMU transfer Sedrick Barefield to join the Utah Basketball program

Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

It's been a big day for the Runnin' Utes basketball program, in terms of additions for next season. According to reports, the Utes will have the services of Sedrick Barefield next season. Barefield is a midyear transfer from SMU, and has only played a couple of minutes to open the season. Per Kyle Goon of the Salt Lake Tribune, Barefield averaged 20.6 points, 4.2 assists and 1.4 steals for Corona Centennial High (Corona, Calif.).

With the number of seniors on the team right now, including Jakob Poeltl likely heading to the Draft, coach Larry Krystkowiak is filling in the roster for next season and beyond. Also added to the program today was former USU Aggie David Collette.

I'm a big fan of this addition to the team, as you can see with the highlights below, Barefield can handle the ball very well, and appears to be quite the play maker with the ball. Between Barefield, Isaiah Wright and Lorenzo Bonam, the Utes should have a solid group of point guards next season and beyond.

Here's the incoming class for the basketball team, although, Jayce Johnson now is a member of the team so he counted toward the 2015 class.
