The No. 7 Utah Red Rocks (4-0, 2-0 Pac-12) defeated the No. 20 Arizona Wildcats (2-2, 0-2 Pac-12) 197.150-194.850. It was Utah's highest score of the season.
Through one event, Utah held a slim 49.075-49.000 lead over Arizona. Utah's leader on vault was Kailah Delaney with a 9.850. Other strong scores on vault for Utah came in from Baely Rowe (9.825), Breanna Hughes (9.825), and Tiffani Lewis (9.800). Arizona was led on bars by Selynna Felix-Terrazas (9.850).
Utah extended their lead to 98.500-97.950 in the second event of the night. The Red Rocks showed why they are one of the top bar teams in the nation posting their second highest score of the season (49.425). Utah was led in the event by Hughes' 9.925. No Utah gymnast scored lower than a 9.800 on bars, and Hughes (9.925), Rowe (9.900), and Kassandra Lopez (9.900) all scored a 9.900 or higher. Arizona was led on vault by Shelby Edwards (9.850).
Utah pulled even further ahead after the third rotation, 147.525-146.750. Hughes and Rowe continued their strong night, each scoring 9.850 to lead the Red Rocks on beam. Lopez posted a 9.800 on beam as well. On floor, Arizona was led by Jessie Sisler (9.850).
After failing to finish strong in the last meet against Oregon State on floor, Utah did the exact opposite tonight, posting a season-high 49.625 on floor. Utah was led by Samantha Partyka's 9.975, which included a perfect 10.0 from one of the two judges. Partyka (9.975), Schwab (9.950), Hughes (9.925), and Delaney (9.900) all scored at least a 9.900 on floor. Utah's lowest score on the event was a 9.850. Arizona struggled on the beam, having two gymnasts fall. After a meet that started out close, Utah ending up pulling away late and winning big, 197.150-194.850.
Hughes and Partyka each competed in the all around. Hughes got her first career win in the all around with a 39.525 (Partyka scored a 39.300). A Red Rock either won or tied for the win in every event.
Utah's next meet is on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 1:00 p.m. PT (2:00 p.m. MT) at Pauley Pavilion to take on the No. 4 UCLA Bruins.
