The Utah football team enters week 4 of camp. There are six practices left in spring (including the closed practices on Thursdays). There will be another scrimmage on Saturday Apr. 16 at 10 a.m. to noon at Rice-Eccles Stadium. Head coach Kyle Whittingham said after last week's scrimmage that the final scrimmage before the spring game is the most important in spring. This week's scrimmage will be similar to the first one with roughly 90 plays, including "drives from the 30-yard line (No. 1 offense vs. No. 1 defense and No. 2 offense vs. No. 2 defense), punts, short yardage (third down and two, third and one, fourth and one), drives from the 50-yard line, kickoffs, red zone and punt returns" per Utah's official press release.
As reported Saturday, quarterback Troy Williams and wide receiver/returner Cory Butler-Byrd will miss the rest of spring camp. Williams has a sore throwing arm. Quarterbacks Brandon Cox and Tyler Huntley will split reps evenly the rest of spring camp, and the quarterback battle will resume in fall camp. Kyle Fulks has replaced Butler-Byrd at slot receiver. Brian Allen, Isaac Asiata, Caleb Repp, Pita Taumoepenu, Sunia Tauteoli, Joe Williams, and Marcus Williams were all highlighted by Whittingham as standouts in spring camp.
