2017 Frisco Lone Star High School (Frisco, Texas) quarterback Jason Shelley II committed to the University of Utah today. Shelley, a three-star recruit, is rated the rated the No. 12 dual threat quarterback according to the 247Sports Composite ranking.

The 6'0", 178 pound quarterback was on an unofficial visit in Salt Lake last weekend. He also held offers from other Power Five schools Clemson and Virginia.

Shelley is a true dual-threat quarterback. Utah has been focusing on recruiting dual-threat quarterbacks primarily the last few years. What Shelley does well that makes him an ideal fit for Utah's offense is that he can run if he has to, but he does not always do that. He also uses his athleticism to extend plays in the pocket while keeping his eyes downfield. Overall, I think this is a great pickup for the Utes.
