Utah Football Enters Week 2 of Fall Camp

NCAA Football: Las Vegas Bowl-Brigham Young vs Utah Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Utah football team will start week two of fall camp today. The team will don full pads on Wednesday after waiting the NCAA mandated five days for acclimatization. The first scrimmage of fall camp will take place on Thursday Aug. 11. Utah will also have double practices on Wednesday and Friday of this week.

Roster and Depth Chart Changes

True freshman offensive tackle Scott Peck has been removed from the camp roster of 105 players and placed on the medical disabled list. His spot on the camp roster was filled walk-on redshirt freshman offensive lineman Daniel Heller. There were changes on the depth chart at the H (slot) receiver spot with the suspension of Cory Butler-Byrd. Junior receiver Kyle Fulks is atop the depth chart with senior Tyler Cooperwood and true freshman Demari Simpkins as his backups. Redshirt freshman Johnny Capra is now the backup at left guard. Running backs Troy McCormick and Joe Williams are listed as co-starters as kickoff returners. The defensive depth chart remains unchanged.

What to Watch for in Week Two

There was no separation in week one between the three quarterbacks: junior Brandon Cox, true freshman Tyler Huntley, and junior Troy Williams. With the team donning full pads and having a scrimmage this week, we could begin to see some separation between the three signal callers this week.

The coaches are still trying to determine the starting lineup for the offensive line. Senior J.J. Dielman, who was a second team All-Pac-12 performer last season at offensive tackle, took reps at center last week, but he is still listed atop the depth chart at right tackle. Junior Sam Tevi is listed as the starter at left tackle with junior Garett Bolles listed as the backup. The starting lineup for the offensive line will likely be determined mostly by Dielman’s comfort level at center.
